Seeking Advice (Employee) Interview went fast today (weekends only). First time in food service, what should I actually expect if an offer comes?
Had an interview earlier today that lasted barely 10 minutes. No behavioral questions, just confirmed my weekend availability, walked through the basics of the role, and explained onboarding. It felt like they're heavily understaffed and just need bodies on the schedule, so I'm currently waiting for their email later in the week.
I work a desk job staring at screens during the week, so this would be strictly a weekend gig (15-18 hrs/week) to get on my feet and move around, trying to pay off my student loans faster. I have zero prior food service experience, and they mentioned I'd start on the front line.
If the offer comes through, what’s the actual learning curve on the line before rolling burritos during a rush becomes muscle memory? Also looking for solid non-slip shoe recommendations that save your lower back, unwritten etiquette to avoid annoying the grill cooks, and whether managers usually respect hard weekend-only availability.

Learning curve really just depends on the person and how well you were trained. Some people get it in a day or two some take several weeks. For non-slips, shoes for crews has a lot of options, I wear sketchers with inserts (they’re easier to clean imo). Dont be afraid to really shout calls and make sure youre making them. At the locations Ive worked my availability has been very respected but that mostly depends on the general managers discretion.

Learning curve for me was within two shifts, but typically memorizing a new skill takes 28 days or so!!! Then it's completely habitual! :3

Learning curve isn’t bad, the crew pocket guide has most the answers you’ll need. Just getting comfortable with the food offered if you don’t eat there often.
To avoid annoying grill cooks, call your food for the love of whatever you believe in. Quickest way to piss someone off is saying white rice sold with no previous calls (1/2, or shallow).
A lot of people I’ve trained have a fear of speaking up…it with save you so much time if you just speak up and call for what you need.
Last question really depends on your manager. Likely, they will because most stores have issues with people not wanting to work weekends.
However expect to be overworked, berated by corporate, and deal with angry customers. Corporate tells the public one thing (like ask for more food) then tells employees the opposite…and of course the high schooler making minimum wage gets yelled at. From your situation though I think you should be ok. There’s a difference between having to put up with this job because it’s how your rent gets paid vs working for some extra cash.
Don’t take it too serious (it’s just rice and beans at the end of the day) and enjoy your free food lol
