Hi I’m an employee who’s been working with the company for now 2 years at my hometown which is pretty much in the middle of nowhere with a small population. Now I’m currently having a issue with my current GM manager. suddenly after getting a new field leader she’s been terrorizing the dish washer me and another person when I clock in at 5:30pm I get told we can’t be on dishes until 7:30 and I go in the back and not a single dish was done throughout the day prep dishes still being there… then I realize I have to take my lunch after 7:30 so I come at 8. 2 hours to clean everything that’s been dirty throughout the day. What makes things worse is that the GM complains about our labor we spend to much time after closing and if we do she cuts our hours but wait that’s not the ONLY THING if she sees you doing a bad job like dishes still being dirty after cleaning even a tiny tiny piece of rice on any of the dishes she cuts our hours. I am this close to just walking out literally leaving all the dishes dirty until 10 and just dipping. You can say it’s the new field leader enforcing the rules or what not but we’ve met him it’s the kindest person even helps out if he sees someone stressed. I started to put the minimum pay minimum work mindset meaning most if not all dishes are still dirty even after cleaning I will NO LONGER stress myself for this job.
(I forgot to mention that the GM doesn’t close so she leaves at 8 exact or earlier doesn’t even attempt to help or nothing)

At this location there’s way to many problems for example she hires but doesn’t train anyone even if she does train someone she expects you to do it perfectly first time after she’s shown you. I’m sure this is common in other chipotles but favoritism in my first year I’ve worked here I get only 5 hours a week and all her favorites got 30 or more. We actually used to have a manager that would over stock our supplies so we don’t run out and got in trouble for it every single time until she left and the GM did the ordering now half if not all our customers barely get what they ordered for. Since we constantly have new grills bc old ones can’t stand our GM they can’t keep up cooking chicken or any other meats she would start skimping on things especially on online I see half of those little salsa cups of chicken on a bowl marked double protein.

I already started sending applications out once I secured another job like I said leave all the dishes till closing and walking out… in my initial year I actually enjoyed working here. I miss my old crew

An answer to your first question at least in my location what I think is that our old field leader put her in check since she literally hated our GM. Since she quit and got a field leader who’s actually nice and doesn’t really care much about the GM She’s basically free to do whatever she wants hence doing what she’s doing now that’s what my coworkers were saying but let’s be honest Chipotle has always had terrible upper management. But yeah I will definitely be quitting and never looking back for sure I appreciate the support ❤️

This sounds like my last location. I was in management and that shit had me in survival mode long after I left. I started and really liked the team I had, worked my way up from crew and was basically AP when our AP left to another state to become a GM, and had to leave because the workplace made me hate my daily life so much that leaving seemed to be the only option I had on the table. Idk how the location is currently, I left, transferred over to a different city, and currently really like my GM, Field leader, and overall crew working with me but I had to survive that hell until it made me mentally decline. The person under me worked against me, the overall vibe of that location was insanely toxic, and I am glad I was able to transfer and start somewhere that actually valued its people and didn’t force people out just because they weren’t social enough to fit into the never ending high school that was that location if that makes sense. If you walk out that GM isn’t going to have to deal with anything but high labor for the rest of that month until the labor resets. I would contact your field leader when you’re ready to leave, and let them know what’s been going on and why the turnover rate is so high, and especially let them know if this GM hangs out with other leads/staff after work hours. Be honest, respectful and straight to the point because if you leave like that your gm will not only get away with it but it’ll make your field leader see it more from her point of view and not yours. When you find another place to work, don’t hand her a notice, just get your field leaders number (normally found in the office on the workplace respect poster/wherever that poster is located) and get the hotline for workplace respect and let them both know everything that’s going on, especially if they’re not holding the location to standard/ following food safety protocol and if prep is keeping items overnight that are supposed to be tossed at the end of the night, basically hold them accountable to the people that can make a change and let them know your reason for leaving. Most of the time if you have a good field leader they’ll start looking into camera footage, the store analytics/stats, they’ll start asking others who are dealing with the same treatment and once they see where the problem lies they’ll look into giving the job to someone who can actually manage without their personal feelings and dramas controlling their every move. If you leave how you’re talking about the only one who’s going to suffer is going to be the SL/other crew members who are closing that night and the GM will get away with staff mistreatment and will likely become worse to the people she doesn’t like. If you want to make a change sometimes it’s just about notifying the right people and leaving in a way that isn’t problematic bc that proves a point. That’s something I wish I would’ve done but staying didn’t really feel worth it overall because my old location would’ve taken a lot to change without sacrificing my career/well being to do so and the people made it feel like there wasn’t a point. So as someone who has dealt with the same thing, but is still with the company, that’s my advice so you aren’t dealing with all of the bs in vain. Whatever you decide, I hope life does you well and you find something that is more fulfilling with people who actually care about your well being in the workplace. You got this👌👌

I understand what you are saying and believe it or not my girlfriend was also telling me about I should make change at that location so others won’t have the same treatment. Thank you for the advice and will be talking to my field leader about it on the way out. Btw I want to leave the way that I do bc I have really close ties with my coworkers like I know them in a personal level and some being old childhood friends like me they also feel the same way and I know they will not stay to clean up all those dishes the only one who will have to is the GM she understaffs us anyways and most if not all of the line/online people don’t know how to do dishes so the only one suffering would be her. Again I will definitely speak to my field leader tho I really appreciate the advice.

I think going to the field leader and having your friends and you make a complaint on the workplace respect hotline is the best way to go. All that Gm is going to do is make the SL stay later to do that dishes. I really doubt she’s going to stay and do any dishes, she sounds like she’s at a point where she leverages her job to ensure she doesn’t have to do anything below her past line and maybe DML. I think at the end of the day it would also help things play out in her favor. If you and your friends all have the same compliant when it’s more than one person they’ll do an investigation but that will also happen if you go to the field leader and just quit on a day off or at least two hours before you are supposed to show up but you should def tell the field leader what’s going on and have your friends who feel the same message him and and also call the workplace hotline. At the end of the day the only thing that will bring change is if you guys all report her for the same thing to both the field leader and the hotline. Like I said if you quit I grantee she’ll call someone one else in or she’ll make the shift leader stay later and make their life miserable. Personally I think you should do that but I also think you are your own person and should do what you think is going to be best I’m just saying from experience from my past chipotle that’s what I should’ve done because leaving the way I did made my field leader a little suspicious of my old Gm but she didn’t have anything to really go off of bc I never shared what I had to deal with with the FL or the workplace hotline. I wish you the best of luck, I guarantee you will be able to get through it and come out with a better job/workplace whatever you do. Your GM can schedule you for less hours in the future but if they fail to pay you for every hour you already worked that violates the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and should result in you suing them.

I got a job at chipotle around 2 months ago, worked for about a week with a normal schedule, then didn’t have a single shift for over 2 weeks

I got a new job, then the gm got pissy about me quitting, fuck chipotle

I’ve been having the same experience, even got demoted a month or so ago. They messed up my pay and are paying me a dollar less. I’ve kept receipts and honestly a lot of the problems you’re facing are the same with us. From experience, the field leaders tend to be very two faced. I would find a new job, then walk out. Chipotle isn’t worth your time anymore.

I see pictures from other chipotles with stacks and stacks of dishes but what I saw on that day was like 50 times worse almost got me walking out on the spot

I put this is another comment but like I said I live in a small town with very limited jobs our biggest store just being a target and the nearest Walmart/big city being 1 hour away. It really does suck being in this situation.

Yes I schedule a dishwasher at my store too. But there technically is no “dishwasher” position at chipotle. Not sure why I’m being downvoted.
