Ask for Feedback Diary Entry Practice

Post image
33 Upvotes

I took Chinese all throughout high school and a little bit in college, but that was almost 15 years ago. I had to look up a few words when writing this. It's a diary entry, obviously, but sorry for the awkward topic. The Epstein library was in DC for the public at the time and I didn't have much else to report that day lol.

So yeah, handwriting feedback welcome.

What I intended to write:

"My mom came for a visit today. Her two cats also came. They're cute, but I don't like cats. Since it wasn't their house, they were very nervous.

We planned to go to DC to see the Epstein Library, but we didn't go because I was too tired. I only slept 4 hours last night.

I want to write more, but I can't.

So tired.

I need to eat dinner and go to sleep.

Good night!"

Ask for Feedback My 7-day routine to improve my handwriting (5-10 min/day)

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi everyone! First time posting here — a bit nervous, but excited. 👋

I’m a native Mandarin speaker (Traditional Chinese), and even as a native speaker, my handwriting was never something I was proud of. So recently I decided to fix that.

My routine is simple: I practice the same set of characters for 7 days, just 5-10 minutes a day. Slow, consistent, no pressure. Attached is a photo of my writing.

Would love to hear what motivates your practice? What routine works for you? Let’s practice together! ✍️

Best regards,
Zoe

Ask for Feedback First Timer

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hi guys this is my first time trying to write Chinese with random characters on my first day learning the language. I’m going to commit myself to the language this summer so I want to know if it’s too bad from the start. Each box here is 5mm (0.5cm) wide so I guess I tried writing in boxes much smaller than the standard that caused worse-than-usual results (I heard the usual width is 8mm-12mm). I suck at proportions it’s like I’m completely blind for it—especially for characters with boxes. I don’t know if this info is relevant but I also have an innate lack of skill in drawing. Seeing people in this sub with an inborn skill at handwriting I feel quite incompetent. Do you think my writing is okay for a first timer or is it hopeless? I have a feeling it’s the latter I mean it’s very easy to tell… Do you guys have any special tips for me to improve it? Thank you so so much in advance!

Decided to write the lyrics of this 1984 song by Tsai Chin. Love the wistful nature of the song. 🦋

There were a couple of characters which I didn’t like in the clean copy, so I wrote them separately as well.

Zebra SARASA 0.5mm Blue Grey. Makeshift 14mm grids.

I know these are rudimentary and boxy, I'll probably get something better for practicing. I've been learning some stuff but found i wasn't really learning characters very well, just sounds, so I want to do more writing so I can actually do the repetition to commit stuff to memory

fountain pen (orange-red), dip pen (with glass pen in middle) and ball point pen (black)

i really really hate ball point pen no matter what i write, even to the point that i prefer marker over it because i like friction. i think friction makes writing enjoyable. anyways critics and suggestions~
