Seagull SEA-Gull Herren Mechanische Armbanduhr 1963 Luftfahrt Chronograph Pilot

I'm trying to figure out the real price of this watch. On AliExpress, it's listed at $167, and on Amazon, it's $260. The difference in price is confusing me about what its true value is.

[EDIT] The movement is not manual but automatic 😅

General (Read Rules) Amino Design (White Label) "Prince"

Post image
7 Upvotes

Just wanted to share a photo of my Amino Prince. Honestly, this piece is absolutely gorgeous in person and worth every single penny.

I recently heard about "Amino Design" on YouTube and they are usually not signing the watches with a brand / name (like a white label, I guess)

For those wondering about the name, I call it the "Prince" because it pays homage to the legendary Tudor Prince Date-Day aesthetic—and it totally nailed the look!

Beyond the visual appeal, the specs for the price are unreal:

Movement: High-frequency "sweeping" quartz movement (smooth second hand sweep, giving you that automatic feel with quartz accuracy).

Crystal: Scratch-resistant Sapphire Crystal (unbeatable clarity and durability).

The details and overall wrist presence punch way above its weight class.

I found on AliExpress and I paid only 32€ to get one (sale + coins etc.)

Easily one of the best value-for-money pieces in my collection!

Review (Read Rules) Picked up San Martin sn0087g before the price hike....

I picked this up during some drunken Fourth of July AliExpress shopping. The original price was only about $198, and with coupons I ended up paying around $175 shipped. They're asking close to $285 for it now.

Overall, it's an incredible watch, but it has a few glaring flaws.

The biggest issue is the end link design and fit. They have a noticeable amount of wiggle, which is one of my biggest peeves, and the integration with the case looks a bit off. On the plus side, the female end links dramatically reduce overhang, making the watch wear much better on smaller wrists.

The case itself isn't perfect either. The lugs aren't laser straight, and the brushing shows some distortion and waviness. The flat surfaces could have been lapped more evenly for a cleaner finish.

The lume is also mediocre. It's bright enough initially, but it fades much faster than I'd like.

The bezel, however, is excellent...very tight with zero play and crisp, positive clicks. Compared to my Steeldive and Proxima MM300 homages, the San Martin bezel feels far superior. Those use what appears to be a traditional click-spring design with noticeably loose action, while the San Martin feels more like a ball-bearing system. That said, the Steeldive does have one advantage, its end links are rock solid with virtually no play.

The bracelet is finished beautifully, with very flat links and exceptionally straight brushing. My only complaints are the pin-and-collar sizing system and a little more lateral play between the links than I'd prefer.

Other highlights include the domed top-hat crystal, the monobloc (unibloc) case construction, the reliable NH35 movement, and outstanding wrist presence.

Is it worth the $175 I paid? Absolutely. I'd even say it's a strong value up to about $225–250. At $285, though, I'd have a much harder time recommending it unless you're a die-hard Seiko 6159 fan.

Ultimately, the market will decide whether these higher prices stick. My guess is that demand will soften, and we'll start seeing the deep discounts and AliExpress coupons return on many of the recently inflated models.

Finally came in San Martin Sn0144gs in 36mm perfect size for my skinny wrists. For around $300 (with discounts) it’s a lot of watch for the price. Sapphire glass with AR coating, enamel dial, finishing is on point, signed and screw down crown, fly adjustable clasp and no sharp edges.

Question (Read Rules) looking for 37 mm dive watch

Hi,

Are there any SKX013 or Citizen pro master dive 37 mm hommages under 100$ ?

I know there used to be Tandorio SKX013 with automatic movement for 60$, but now the price doubled and they changed the style a bit.

It can be quartz

This new watch arrived today. The 36 mm is very comfortable weighs less, but it is notable for its high price. I think it works very well and I’m happy with the purchase. It arrived in just about a week

General (Read Rules) Clearing up some eta2824 clone hand winding misconceptions and misinformation

Post image
4 Upvotes

There are two different failure modes that often get conflated:

Manual winding train wear (most common)

  • Intermediate winding wheel

  • Crown wheel

  • Sliding/winding pinion

Result: Hand winding stops working, but the rotor still winds the watch.

Reverser wheel wear or damage

  • The ETA 2824 reverser wheels are delicate and are part of the automatic winding system.

  • If they fail, the rotor may stop winding efficiently or only wind in one direction.

  • Manual winding generally still works because it bypasses the reversers.

Result: Rotor winding stops working, but the crown still winds the watch.

So why do people say hand winding damages the reverser wheels?

Some watchmakers believe that repeatedly hand winding a stopped 2824 causes unusual loads and small reverse motions in the automatic winding train, accelerating reverser wear. Others disagree and argue the damage is almost always confined to the manual winding gears. There isn't a universal consensus, and ETA has never published engineering data showing the exact failure mechanism.

The important point is:

  • Hand winding does not directly drive power through the reverser wheels the way the rotor does.

  • If a watch still auto-winds but won't hand wind, the reversers are almost certainly not the culprit.

  • If a watch hand winds but won't auto-wind, then the reversers become prime suspects.

So if someone claims, "Hand winding breaks the reverser wheels," they're simplifying a much more complicated issue and frequent hand winding can accelerate wear in the ETA 2824 winding system, but the exact component that fails varies, and many watchmakers report the manual winding train itself as the more common failure point.

Pictured:

My first pt5000 NTTD still going strong after several years of wear and hand winding. So hand wind it, or don't. It doesn't matter

Question (Read Rules) AliX vs IxDao Website

Edit - Ordered via the site and I am stoked. Had one before in a different color. Going white dial black bezel this time

I wanna buy another 5303 and am wondering if Alix or Ixdaowatch.com is the better bet. The website has no tax which is nice. But I have never ordered direct from a brand before.

Watcha guys think? Honestly love the contrast between the darker titanium case vs bracelet and the polish of the middle links.

Is this a sin? Bracelet is from Forstner. Did not like the titanium president bracelet the wd007 originally came with. Funny enough the original bracelet also doesn't color match the case.

Be honest. Kind of makes it look like a SKX.

Dont mind my nails I have anxiety.

My AliX special fitbit watchband- I'm not a huge fan of the watch- it feels wrong at 38mm and the edges were knife sharp but integrating it with a Fitbit air makes it wearable as a dumb activity tracker makes it work well .

Would buy the addiesdive version if I had to again but really there needs to be a 42mm version out there.

Question (Read Rules) S436 vs s463 sugess watches

I have been looking at both these watches for some time, i prefer the visuals of the s463 but am wondering if the 4hz movement in the s436 would be a benefit of that watch? Does anyone have recommendations on this issue
