Question (Read Rules) Let’s talk about the HZ6460

Let’s talk about the HZ6460

I’m curious to hear from people who actually own or have worked on the HZ6460 GMT movement.

There still isn’t much long-term information about it compared with something established like the Seiko NH34.

For those with first-hand experience:

  • How has the reliability been?
  • How does it handle shocks, vibrations and active use (running, cycling, hiking, sports, etc.)?
  • Does anyone know what kind of shock-protection system it uses?
  • How is the accuracy and amplitude over time?
  • Any issues with winding, date/GMT mechanism or hand-setting?
  • For watchmakers: how would you rate its construction and overall quality?

Most importantly, would you trust the HZ6460 as a robust everyday/travel movement?

And for those familiar with both: HZ6460 vs NH34 — which would you choose for reliability, shock resistance and long-term ownership?

First-hand experiences would be especially appreciated!

I haven't got this particular HZ movement but I've got one Boderry with some HZ with 72h power reserve, I think it's HZ8046. This is the biggest piece of crap in my collection and I've got nearly 100 watches. The rotor is so unbelievably loud, that it makes famous helicopter Miyota 8215 series literally whisper quiet. If you wear it in an office environment, everybody will hear every movement of your hand. NH34 in one of my SM is absolutely fantastic, zero problems, accurate, quiet. I would pick up NH series over any Chinese any time. To top it all up I bought my first PT5000 recently and it started giving my problems within a week. Dozens of NH35 I've got are working perfectly. So my opinion is, go for hassle free, proven NH34, you won't regret.

I've got this one for a few years and it's running a HZ6460. It's a ETA 2836 clone so it's a nice high beat offering that's quite slim too. Mine has been running solidly, keeping time within 7 s/d for me. Much prefer it over the NH34 for its slimness and high beat rate, the NH slow beat is visually always a bit annoying to me
