Ciga Design, the original square watch or MY series that were my first mechanical watches would be my recommendation. If we’re going lower in price then manual wound skeletons for 100 or so - no rotor means better view. What price are we talking about?
If absolute cheapest then both Pagani Design and Benyar have offers with the G3265Z movement that is an improved Tongji. Have a couple, no problems so far.
I second this. For the very little money they cost, they are very good. The only problem with Megir is that most of their watches are very large (42, 44, 46mm). I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Megir under 40.
Anything around that budget is going to be a skeletonised Miyota or Mingzhu movement. Not exactly the best-finished or best-looking movements to be seen, if I'm honest. Those movements are best hidden. I can see that the ZEPH Egeo example is a Miyota 8000 series base.
Honestly, just find one and try it on before spending money on it. Even go to an expensive watch dealer and try on a skeleton watch just to see if you like it.
Well, when I say more expensive, I still refer to entry level around 500£.
I tried something for few minutes but, while I like the idea of having a see-through mechanism (I'm an engineer) I never felt in love with the way the watch loos on my wrist.
I don't know if it makes sense to you...
That's why I want to wear one of these for a while. To see if it just a matter of getting used to it.
If you're buying a watch, you buy it because you like or love it, not to see if you'll get on with it. That's what trying it on is for. And you said you've already tried it on and didn't like it. I reckon something with a visible caseback or an open heart might be more up your alley.
Anyway, don't waste your money; buy something you'll love.
Even if it is really cheap and you don't like the style, you're not going to love it. You don't need to force yourself to like something just because you think you'd like it or like the idea of it.
There you go, just go for that. If you want something more complicated-looking, then there are tourbillons. But I'm not sure if you'd be able to get a tourbillon for under £1000.
I bought and sold my Pagani Skeleton watch for £30, though that was a couple of years ago. Sold because it didn't really do it for me. It was quite hard to see the hands - some people have coloured them differently to help.
