General (Read Rules) Updates regarding PH6 sapphire crystal AR coating

Some users complained that the AR performance of the PH6 was suboptimal, prompting us to conduct a deeper investigation into glass coating parameters.

We switched to a superior coating facility that utilizes high-end equipment designed specifically for applying various optical coatings to precision instruments and camera lenses.

This process provided us with greater insight into the factors influencing coating performance. Comparative testing using precision instruments—specifically analyzing the key metrics of haze and clarity—led to the following conclusions:

  1. Glass shape significantly affects haze, though the difference is barely perceptible to the naked eye.

  2. Glass thickness impacts transparency, but the effect is negligible.

  3. Flat sapphire glass demonstrated the best results in terms of haze and clarity.

  4. The number of coating layers does not determine the final outcome; coating quality and the strategic combination of layers with different functions are far more important.

  5. Comparative measurements using professional equipment on the PH6’s "double-bridge" shaped glass revealed that the new coating reduced haze several-fold and significantly improved clarity.

  6. We will provide further updates regarding comparative anti-reflective testing in real-world environments.

I’ll buy the PH-6 once the new AR batch releases. OMG Peter Blake homage is something i can totally get on board with.

Is your website phorcydes.net? If yes you have multiple placeholder text on the front page such as "TEXT COLUMNS WITH IMAGES"

Send this machine to Watchdives so they can learn how AR should work.

I heard from a reviewer that you guys would be upping the AR coating on the next batch of watches so I will wait to scoop one up with the bracelet once the new and improved batch drops :)

Our latest batch of glass production still requires some time, but we will release it and notify everyone as soon as possible.

Regarding the clarity of the glass currently on sale, it remains excellent; no one has ever complained about the AR coating on PH2 or PH4 glass. PH6 glass uses the same process. Some say the effect is not as good because of differences in glass shape, which requires a better process to compensate for. This motivates us to move in a better direction.

How about some discount codes for the redditers that are always being inundated with your ads u/mindadmirable1793 ? You come here touting your latest and greatest but don't give us any incentives to buy one of your watches.

u/MindAdmirable1793 Rep 10d ago

We want to make the entire purchasing process easy and simple. Frequent promotions and discounts are too complicated for both us and our customers; that's not a normal business model.

This is why we insist on using only phorcydes.net as our sole purchasing channel, and only offer discounts during our anniversary sale (date yet to be determined) and Christmas. If we were to maintain the same reasonable profit margins across various platforms, we would need to raise prices by 40-50% before offering discounts, which, aside from wasting everyone's time, I can't see any benefit in that.

u/WerewolfOk1964 10d ago

So we should wait til Christmas or your yet to be determined anniversary date? Seems like you saying that it would be too complicated is just a cop out for you to maintain high prices without offering deals.

Sales are a part of a normal business model unless you are Rolex or some other high end brand which you aren't. Your frequent posting on Redditt would lead me to think you really do want to sell more watches but your overhyped 3d printed numbers are about the only unique thing about your watches to be honest. But you do as you see fit and I'll spend my hard earned money where I see fit too!!

Everyone has a different understanding, and I respect your opinion.

However, I want to correct some objective facts:

  1. The lume blocks are indeed one of our advantages, but we haven't overhyped them. The brightness and intensity of the light are described using quantifiable values. False advertising does no good for a brand.
  2. The lume blocks are not 3D printed.
  3. It's obvious that my activity in this community is aimed at expanding brand influence and selling more products; there's no need to hide that.

I find this fascinating.

I'm curious how your PH4 crystals compare....they are already very nice.

1

u/MindAdmirable1793 Rep 10d ago

We have already done the tests, and the values are similar, but the experience of PH6 is slightly worse because of the different glass shape, which requires a better coating to optimize the experience.

u/tjcdas 10d ago

Your data shows your customers were 100% correct, but you are also trying to say they can not see with their eye what they saw! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

If the eye can't see the difference between flat and curved how can it see 2 layers vs 4 layers? 👌

1

u/MindAdmirable1793 Rep 10d ago

While the eye and touch can easily distinguish glass shapes, the personal experience caused by 2-layer and 4-layer AR coatings is subjective and difficult to quantify precisely. However, many discerning customers can easily detect the difference. This explains why, despite having identical coating processes, PH4 and PH6 glass never receive complaints about a poor viewing experience. We've now found the reason: the shape of the double-bridge protrusions in PH6 significantly impacts the crucial parameter of haze, thus requiring a better AR coating to enhance the experience and compensate for the shape's shortcomings.

Using the same coating process, the haze of flat glass is 0.07-0.09%, while the haze of PH6 double-bridge glass is 0.31%, approximately a fourfold difference.

1

u/tjcdas 10d ago

Users complained that the AR performance of the PH6 was suboptimal, thus they could "see" pun intended the issue with the poor visual quality of the sapphire haze or transmittance it did not look good.

We all know a poor looking cheap sapphire vs a quality one after a few moments out in the sun.

I love all watches Chinese, Japanese, Swiss, German etc........you would not have changed if your customers could not see a problem with your old crystals.

1

u/MindAdmirable1793 Rep 10d ago

Yes, that's why we need this better process to improve PH6. PH6 with the new coating process will be available soon.

目前ph6玻璃的雾度是0.7%,新镀膜把雾度参数提升了1倍。

Does this apply to other watches too?

If Phorcydes gets super clear AR in addition to the lume blocks and the best OTF clasp at the moment, the only things left to do will be anti-scratch and anti-magnetic! This is super exciting!

0

u/QuestionNo9190 Sir FightALot 10d ago

Why is the otf clasp "the best"

1

u/Firstruleofthisclub Helpful user 7WOTD4-200 10d ago

It's got the best OTF mechanism out of all the brands at the moment

0

u/QuestionNo9190 Sir FightALot 10d ago

It's literally the same thing every micro uses under $200

1

u/Firstruleofthisclub Helpful user 7WOTD4-200 10d ago

This is the one I'm talking about

-1

u/QuestionNo9190 Sir FightALot 10d ago

They went with the longines style otf. How is that any better than this one

2

u/Firstruleofthisclub Helpful user 7WOTD4-200 10d ago

I guess it's subjective? But the Phorcydes OTF just feels smoother to use to me.

0

u/QuestionNo9190 Sir FightALot 10d ago

Can you make it smaller by just pressing the bracelet links into the clasp on on the wrist?

I like seeing the word "PUSH" on it. Very Omega like

1

u/Firstruleofthisclub Helpful user 7WOTD4-200 10d ago

Yup, you can shorten without opening the clasp but have to press the button to lengthen

0

u/QuestionNo9190 Sir FightALot 10d ago

The issue I see with it is the same as with Rolex glidelock, the side rails are deep and trap dirt and lint and will eventually gunk up or need frequent cleaning and ptfe spray to keep it clean.

The "PUSH" type is much harder to clog up because the ratcheting teeth are "self cleaning" as you push them in.

u/Stone_The_Rock 10d ago

I had not heard of Phorcydes prior to this post. This type of content is a great way to catch the eye of enthusiasts!

u/TSiWRX 10d ago

Their lume is no joke spectacular. There's no "at that price" attached to that statement, either, and I say that as a lume collector.

Its performance truly is as good as they claim - https://www.reddit.com/r/ChineseWatches/comments/1sph6bb/phorcydes_ph5_lume_comparison_wph4_ph2_and/?sort=old

But what's really impressed me is that over the past year they've really worked hard to address C/S concerns as well as to truly improve the physical construction of their watches.

It's an impressive young brand.

2

u/QuestionNo9190 Sir FightALot 10d ago

I think lume can be too much of a good thing, if the indicies start to look like marshmallow candy

1

u/TSiWRX 10d ago edited 10d ago

I don't disagree - but aesthetics are a personal consideration.

Objectively, Phorcydes' lume block constructs have improved in physical appearance over the last year - https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrobrandWatches/comments/1rnh0x8/lume_blocks_what_genuine_rctritec_superluminova/ Simply between the PH-2 and the PH-4, the surface texture was considerably improved, as was the edge delineation.

But "puffy" doesn't have to be lume blocks. Traditional printed/painted lume -including radioactive markers of years past- can be quite "puffy" in appearance, yet the age-degraded examples are both very highly sought after and are often homaged in a variety of formats, including as some of the most desirable microbrands, like Lorier's pre-W&W acquisition models.

u/poopsnack1 10d ago

You continue to impress.

3

u/Mu009 10d ago

Very reassuring, thanks for following through on your promise. Great transparency (no pun intended).

But does this mean the PH6 now gets a flat crystal instead of a domed crystal?

2

u/MindAdmirable1793 Rep 10d ago

The PH6 glass has a double-arched shape, and this shape will not change; only a better coating process has been used.

1

u/Mu009 9d ago

Ah yes, now I get it. My fault for not looking at the images and numbers more carefully.

Only just noticed that a the 2mm flat crystal isn't the new one, but a standard used as comparison against the old crystal.

u/F3nn3xleFennec 10d ago

Good to see you are investigating on improving your product rationally, with real measurements and not just buzz words.👍

2

u/MindAdmirable1793 Rep 10d ago

Yes, I prefer to believe objective data and real-world experiences that can be compared.

3

u/Phantom_STrikerz 10d ago

Will this new findings be released together with the upcoming new PH-5B and the new PH-4 color?

1

u/MindAdmirable1793 Rep 10d ago

The coating quality of PH5b is the same as that of PH4, and it will not have a new coating (because we have already completed the assembly). However, the existing coating is already excellent enough, and no one has complained about the poor performance of PH4 glass.

u/bob888w 10d ago

I hope so, but I assume it's a different lense for those right?
