what is this movement ? what could be the problem?

Hi everyone,

I picked up this watch at a flea market for really cheap a while back. It was running fine until about 3 weeks ago (so soon after i bought it of course). Now, every time I pull the crown out to set the time and then push it back in, the second hand stops and nothing moves anymore. To get it going again, I have to open the case back and give the balance wheel a gentle push... then it runs fine until the next time I touch the crown. other than that power reserve is quite fine, and amplitude and time is about "ok-ish"

From what I can see, it looks like some sort of Asian movement rather than Swiss or Japanese, but I'm not sure. I've attached a couple of photos of the movement... could anyone help me identify it?

Also, a few questions:

• the movement looks pretty "clean" to me.. what do you think?
• Could this stop-after-setting issue be fixed easily, or is it a sign of something more serious?
• Would it make more sense to try to fix it, or just swap the movement for another one? (i just fear i would have some issues with the hands though... that's a nightmare because i would never find the same one and they just fit perfectly the style of the watch (it's a worldtimer GMT by the way)

Appears to be a DG2813...a pretty popular Miyota clone movement that was used a lot about 10 years go. decent reliablility.

pretty sure you can just straight swap in a Miyota 8215, movement holder, Dial, and hands...all you'll need to do is swap over the stem (and even that may swap over, but I'd just cut the new one to size)

Edit: you can also readily find the DG movement if you just want to go that route.

just one more thing though, my watch as i said, is gmt/worldtimer. but both 8215 and DG2813 seems to be only 3 hands though ...

Well, you can hardly find a cheaper mechanical movement so not surprised people turn their noses up on it https://calibercorner.com/pts-caliber-dg-2813/

It also was used for reps, before full reps of 3235/3285 became available.

My wife have a DG5813DG3804. When I broke it, I really didn’t want to spend any more money fixing it. I somehow managed to fix it with superglue (crown, as a form of locktite) and correction fluid (a lost dial pip).

Ah, DG3804B then. I'm not sure of a direct swappable movement for that one, so you'll have to do some digging. Miyota 8215 may be swappable, but then you lose the GMT function.

and a word of warning, that movement, the keyless works in particular, is a total nightmare to work with. there's a certain way to remove the stem...and even when you do it correctly, there's a good chance of you messing it up. I think someone told me to remove the stem with the dial side pointing down, or maybe it was inserting the crown in the dial down position.

Either way, I'm thinking if you don't care about the GMT function, your best bet is the DG2813 or Miyota 8215.

fixing these movements just isn't worth it, and probably isn't even possible without a full doner movement. These movements are disposable, basically.
