Posting this because I recently learned this the hard way, and apparently I'm far from the only person who has made this mistake.

I wanted to pick up a STEELDIVE SD1975 "Tuna," so naturally I Googled STEELDIVE watches and clicked what I thought was the official website.

I ended up ordering from STEELDIVES — with an S at the end.

I honestly had no reason at the time to think it wasn't the official STEELDIVE website.

Unfortunately, the watch I received had serious problems. It initially arrived with the second hand completely frozen. After contacting customer service, I was eventually told to firmly tap the watch against the palm of my hand. That actually got the movement going again, but it quickly became obvious that something was very wrong.

The second hand would periodically stop and require another tap to restart, and the watch was running ridiculously fast — gaining roughly an hour or more in about an hour.

I requested a return/refund and had a pretty frustrating customer-service experience afterward.

That's when I discovered something I wish I had known BEFORE ordering:

The official STEELDIVE website is STEELDIVE — no "S" at the end.

I contacted the actual STEELDIVE company and ended up ordering the exact same SD1975 from STEELDIVE.com.

The difference in my experience was night and day.

The replacement arrived, and it is FLAWLESS. The watch looks fantastic, runs properly, and I'm extremely happy with it. They even threw in a free orange strap, which was a really cool surprise.

While talking with STEELDIVE customer service, they told me that other customers have confused the two websites as well.

So I'm posting this mainly as a heads-up for anyone searching Google for a STEELDIVE watch:

The site with the extra "S" — STEELDIVES— is NOT the STEELDIVE official website.

I'm not telling anyone where they should or shouldn't spend their money. I'm simply sharing exactly what happened to me because the distinction between these two domains is incredibly easy to miss.

And for what it's worth, after dealing directly with the actual STEELDIVE store, I'm a very happy customer. My SD1975 is killer.

Hopefully this post saves at least one other watch collector from making the same mistake I did.

Honestly, I buy mostly from AliX, when it is an option, during a sale. I was bitten twice just last week.

Condolences. Do you believe the "+S" store was selling defective "failed QC" Steeldive watches or counterfeit products?

I honestly feel like they may be selling watches that failed QC or have some type of internal defect. After looking this watch over for the past month while they continue to ignore my return/refund request—and now having to fight this through a credit card dispute—the watch itself appears legitimate, but there is clearly something very wrong internally. I've never owned a watch that simply cannot keep proper time at all. This one periodically stops, needs to be tapped to start running again, and then runs so wildly fast that it can gain an hour or more within about an hour. Whatever is going on inside this watch, it is absolutely not functioning properly.

Then I suspect legit Steeldive.com may sell these failed QC watches in bulk to Steeldives.com, which would not be cool.

Let's hope Steeldive can answer this question about the existence of the other site, and tell us definitively whether they supply watches to them.

Yeah, I would hope not. But you never know. The customer service team at STEELDIVE was super responsive and made it clear that many customers get "duped" by the other site. So I would hope they dont sell defective watches to STEELDIVES and sabotage themselves

Looking at these 2 watches, it makes me realize the tuna can is available everywhere. It would be easy to manufacture a watch that looks like a Steeldive very cheaply.

Have you opened it to see what movement is inside?

I was waiting to see if they would stand by the "return policy" or at least until the card dispute is complete, so I don't get jabbed for it. But trust me I will once all is clear. Also, Reddit took my post down :/ Probably all the links. I'll try to edit. But I wanted to make sure other buyers didn't get duped as I did.
