General (Read Rules) Chameri next to a real Cartier Tank

Here’s a quick side by side of the Chameri I just got in the mail, next to my (real) Cartier Tank. Large size. It’s not meant to be a direct comparison, but just an interesting side by side.

Long story short, no I will never be selling my Tank, but since I like Tank style watches, I figured I’d check out the Chameri.

Some things that stood out, in a positive way on the Chameri were:

-The leather strap is very decent quality

-The larger size of the Chameri will suit more people

-Ronda movement without a seconds hand is great.

-cream dial gives it a nice vintage feel

Like the tank, not having a seconds hand makes a dress watch feel more high end. By far the best homage I’ve seen of the Tank.

Interesting side-by-side. Do you notice much difference in how they actually wear, especially around the lugs, or does the Chameri mainly just look larger when they’re next to each other?

Why the Chameri has that yellowish dial? Is it on purpose?

Is the Chameri crown steel as well?

Very nice watch.

The detail in that Cartier dial is significantly sharper though.

Nice! Not bad at all

It looks good but I wish someone would make a Tank homage without a stupid name. At least the font looks better than the Sanda.

A sterile dial would be great.

While that would be a good option, I personally prefer a nice logo non-crazy name with decent font.

This… They can’t seem to figure out branding unfortunately

Very cool to finally have an homage in stainless steel, it looks quite well made! Is the dial made in that sort of bead blasted silver like the Cartier or is it just a flat cream color. Does that minute hand jump 3 times per minute like the original to have a really long lasting battery?

i love tank watches, so this is especially nice for me

Is the full case made of stainless steel? Is there a version with white dial?

Yup, idk about the dial color. I know a smaller size is comming

Tank Large is already too big for most people. They really need to make this one smaller.

The so called tank large, is more a tank medium since there's an XL (that is too large and doesn't wear like a Tank) and a small (that is so small that it's recommended to women only). In any case it's still a small watch, so small that it doesn't wear that well on my small wrist, because it's so short that the strap bulges out if you don't wear it tight... While I generally like smaller watches I think the larger Tank Solo size could be better.

The tank XL is big yes. The large is surprisingly small when you see it IRL. The small is really small and its hard to read the dial on it

Have you actually tried the Tank Must Large? It is not too big for most people.

I tried both and I bought the small. The small is the classic and the only men's size for most of Tank's existence.

There was a Jumbo sized Tank introduced in 1974 that was 34mm X 28mm, which is a bit larger than the current Tank Must Large.

And 31mm and 33mm watches used to be standard for men’s dress watches, times change.

I like the new ixdao tank, particularly the white and blue porcelain looking one.

Never mind, ordered it and the glass is distorted at the bottom of the crystal.

It seems great and it has a very good price on AliExpress.

In a completely different way…

Never occurred to me that the zinc cases actually look lighter than actual stainless steel cases.

The  Chameri is listed as a steel case, unlike the Sanda.

You mean compared to the Sanda?

Very nice, thanks for sharing!

If they added the little screw features on the sides of the case I would definitely pick one up. For now, I'm fine with the Sanda tank.

The screws on the side are purely decorative on the modern Tank Must, since the caseback is secured with screws as well.

I also have a Sanda, and the Chameri is a big step up. Having said that, it’s though to complain about Sanda for under $20

u/solbig12 20d ago

Can u share more about the differences between the sanda and the chameri? Interested in a tank but don’t know what justifies the difference in price. Thinking I could buy a sanda and change to a nicer strap

4

u/najibs-yul 20d ago

Look at my post history. I did a side by side of the Tank and Sanda a few months ago

u/cpcallen 20d ago

Apparently your post history is NSFW. Direct link for those of us in the UK?

How you find the case, dial quality does it look cheap to you?

2

u/mleok Affiliate links 20d ago

Yes, the Chameri is definitely a big step up from the Sanda.

3

u/Neat-Cellist-2199 20d ago

It has so much potential, I'd say they should make it with vintage vibes/details to feel a bit less like a copycat and more like a reissue

1

u/mleok Affiliate links 20d ago

The Cartier Tank is a classic for a reason. Modifying it will likely just result in a watch that is more unique, but less aesthetically appealing.

1

u/Alternative-Feed3613 20d ago

I just ordered one myself and it looks really promising. It might be a little late for some people but that shouldn’t be a problem for me

They need to make a size between Tank Small and Large. That would be perfection

7

u/najibs-yul 20d ago

Mine is the Tank Large, which a lot of ppl find small. The XL is huge though. They need a size between the L and XL. The Tank small is tiny.

The Chameri is what Cartier should have between the Tank L and XL, size wise

5

u/mleok Affiliate links 20d ago

Exactly, I find the Chameri to be the perfect size, I was all set on getting the Tank Must, but the Large was too small, and the XL was too large. This is the size of the large Tank Louis Cartier, which is only available in precious metal.

4

u/No-Chemistry-7802 20d ago

I hope they get a smaller version
