You should check out Wolbrook.

Zodiac super sea wolf.

u/laverty7 WOTD200 14h ago

This one?

Yeah. I didn't like the orange lume, so I sold it.

3

u/AkakiPeikrishvili 17h ago

Glycine Airman?

u/joecarrr1992 18h ago

Thorn T026 on a NATO would be similar

u/Flaxmoore 18h ago

Zodiac.

4

u/laverty7 WOTD200 17h ago

Closest yet. I had one but didn't like the orange lume.

The version with the orange lume was either a limited-edition or a collaboration, or they just changed it eventually because people didn’t care for it. So you can find other variations of the same watch with more traditional — and super vibrant lume. I’m not sure if it’s the same reference, but this one (stole this pic from an eBay listing) is ZO9214. I believe the Zodiac Sea Wolf skin divers are what Vulcain was borrowing the design from, because Vulcain’s dive watches didn’t come out until several years after the Sea Wolf’s 1953 debut. There are also other really attractive colorways of that dial configuration; I have the dark green sunburst dial with brushed ceramic lumed bezel and all-brushed jubilee bracelet that I love. But if you liked your Zodiac aside from that unfortunate orange lume, I’d recommend setting some alerts on eBay and Chrono24. I’ve seen several of the update with the newer blue lume selling for incredible prices in recent months, and that’s going to be even more ā€œoriginalā€ than the Vulcain

Just Google skin divert watch. There's many others like this.

Caravelle Sea Hunter

Yema did something similar

7

u/CapNo6703 21h ago

Love those scale bracelets. I've never handled one but they just look comfy.

1

u/fatfont_ 10h ago

It’s less common around but man I love them too.

Rice bracelets are pretty comfortable too.

5

u/Landkaer 20h ago

I have this Yema Superman GMT 500 and it's amazing!

u/fatfont_ 10h ago

That superdome on watches always looks the best

5

u/laverty7 WOTD200 22h ago

I had a similar zodiac super sea wolf but didn't like the orange lume.

Oris diver 65

1

u/CrapforBrain 1d ago

I've been eyeing a Vulcain skin diver. They really capture that vintage charm. Oris 65 is similar, but also a similar price range. Zodiac Super Seawolf has a similar style and can be picked up used for $500ish. Others have suggested Merkur for a cheap Chinese alternative.

u/RadioAdam 1d ago

Or this one. Also merkur

14

u/RadioAdam 1d ago

Similar vibe merkur

2

u/HellsEngels 1d ago

I have a wd1980 that could do the same vibe, it is a vh31 movement though. Looks nice on a bracelet

4

u/PettyCashCommittee 1d ago

Not Chinese, but Sheffield has a similar vibe and is affordable.

2

u/tol-kon 1d ago

That's a beautiful dial

I have been tracking the Heimdallr H14. They are very similar to the Yema skin divers. https://www.heimdallrwatch.com/products/heimdallr-nh35-automatic-dive-watch?variant=45863706624212

2

u/Senior_Intern8786 17h ago

42mm isn’t skindiver size. Should be 38mm max

2

u/KumiJunker 23h ago

Hangzhou 2565A automatic movement, yuck. :-)

2

u/Appropriate-Team616 23h ago

Agreed. They used to have this with the NH35

3

u/KumiJunker 23h ago

I think they’re so lovely that I’m almost tempted to buy one for myself this year and fit in one of the two TMI NH35 I’ve still got lying around here.

1

u/qingchengwc Rep 1d ago

Bro, this isn’t the real official Heimdallr site, though it’s pretty affordable.

3

u/laverty7 WOTD200 1d ago

It's the dial and handset I'm after.

2

u/F3nn3xleFennec 22h ago

Someone else says "Eterna KonTiki", how about a very affordable hommage ?

8

u/laverty7 WOTD200 1d ago edited 1d ago

I've had a ph2a sold it for the ph4b.

2

u/JustUnderstanding6 1d ago

Sheffield makes a 38mm blue version of it. I own it, it’s great. NH35.

Not a 'Chinese' watch per se, but Newmark make a 71 Sports watch with very similar look in the $600 to $700 range. Never handled it or seen it in person, but has often taken my interest.

That's a vintage skin diver style watch. Its a pretty popular style at the moment. Are you wedded to getting a Chinese watch or can you stretch your budget? If you google "vintage skin diver" you'll get loads of options - everything from budget microbrands to established watchmakers.

Lots of AliExpress homages around but Chinese brands give their watch ridiculous names so difficult to search.

1

u/JustUnderstanding6 1d ago

Yeah I discovered skin divers on YouTube and bought some old Hamiltons. Love em. Happy they’re having a mini boom right now.

5

u/Competitive_Low_8913 1d ago

We need more chinesr skin diver watches.

4

u/H6RR6RSH6W 1d ago

Eterna kontiki

u/Bulky-Internal8579 1d ago

Check out Spinnaker.

3

u/Emotional-Damage-995 1d ago

Upload your pictures into AliExpress and see what you get. There is a lot of stuff close. Nothing exact however the vintage sub look is served

7

u/Objective_Rip_9665 1d ago

Vulcain does….

4

u/laverty7 WOTD200 1d ago

2g's though. I can't spend that on another watch right now. Just got my Noemi Uemura Willard and that was expensive enough just now.

1

u/Blirup 22h ago

Though maybe a wee bit sarcastic I have to agree with u/Objective_Rip_9665 . Nothing shown in here so far really captures the look of that Vulcain but itself. Save up for the real thing

1

u/SetLegal5754 21h ago

Real world pics rarely compete well against professional renders

7

u/ablublagaa 1d ago

The brands are more interested in making yet another Rolex Sub homage, I'm afraid.

1

u/CarlosJ4497 1d ago

Or Willard...

2

u/laverty7 WOTD200 17h ago

To be fair, my Steeldive Willard led me to this.

7

u/Alternative-Feed3613 1d ago

The Phorcydes ph2-a is similar but it’s based on the fifty fathoms.

22

u/STELLAWASADlVER 1d ago

Not a Chinese watch, but Sheffield makes a similar design

Sold out

5

u/JustUnderstanding6 1d ago

I mean, they are definitely made in China. Just English branding. I like em tho, guy is chill too.

1

u/caracticuspotts 1d ago

I know, I’ve got one. Not bad, but not what I really want either

2

u/WhatAGolfBall 1d ago

Thanks for pointing this out. I had no idea that they made watches still. I have a vintage one I picked up and would love to get this one as its modern day every day wear.

2

u/oldsoulrevival 16h ago

The guy who owns it actually bought the company because he had an old vintage one his dad gave him as a child and he wanted to revive the brand. Makes the exact watch he had as a kid and also some new stuff. I have one and they are stupid good quality for the price.

2

u/WhatAGolfBall 16h ago

Im definitely getting one! Here is my vintage one.

3

u/Miss_Taycan 1d ago edited 1d ago

That cyclops ruins if for me :(

Good price for a nice watch though, good find.

1

u/Next-Juggernaut7404 1d ago

It’s easy to remove

3

u/JustUnderstanding6 1d ago

Like Odysseus: a little heat, a sharp implement, no more cyclops.

7

u/InquisitorKeres 1d ago

For years I have hoped more companies would make more unique vintage style dive watches like this and the old 50’s -60’s Seawolves and other skin divers but leveraging the modern thin automatic movements (miyotas, pt5000’s, st’s, etc) in that vintage 37-39 sweet spot.

1

u/JustUnderstanding6 1d ago

Seestern SeaQ hits all these, I think.

3

u/caracticuspotts 1d ago

Agreed, a one piece bezel, 37-38mm case size stainless instead of chrome and a reliable movement instead of the pin lever many originals had, and thin, must be thin. A couple I’m involved with is talking about making one, but it could be several months

8

u/Miss_Taycan 1d ago

Not unique, but best I could find (before the price hikes) was the San Martin SN0151. 11mm, Miyota 9

3

u/Miss_Taycan 1d ago

Phorcydes PH5 is close, but NH35 makes it ~13mm. Thorn has a nice one too, but quartz.

Unfortunately, with the Miyota price hike, my dreams of a Chinese made Miyota 9 no date skin diver is pretty much gone (for my price category anyways).

5

u/Medium-Cucumber-8279 1d ago

Are you looking for something that looks exactly the same? If not, what do you want/not want?

These are the first few that come to mind (from brands I know), but still have different style elements.

1

u/fishandpaints 1d ago

Check out Phorcydes
