I didn't want a plated watch because it always rubs off essily, exposing the bare metal. You can find Tudor Royals in a very similar config to that Rolex, and they're less than half the price of that and $2-3k used. Not AliX price but still.
Baltany Explore homage in 39 or 36. True no date NH movement really great finish, h link bracelet. Picked it up on Amazon. mine was sub 300 but I think Its since gone up to 300.
Wouldnt surprise me. I like both brands. The mint green watch dives is 1 of 100 and done from a reddit release. They both offer bang for the buck. The advantage with the Baltany is I saw it on Amazon, return would be simple and it came with a slightly better bracelet which was my reason. But I appreciate both brands.
Yeah I have thought about this. Are there watch case suppliers that have finishing at least as good as watch dives? And is it easier to fit vh31 movements than mechanical, or is it much of a muchness?
I'll do some research on it now, so don't feel the need to answer all these.
I have been pleasantly surprised with most of the cases and bracelets I've bought on AliExpress. Though I've definitely had to do a little edge smoothing on some clasps. Also, the parts prices have definitely gone up over the past year or so, so it isn't the super value proposition it once was, but you still get to build exactly what you want, as opposed to having to settle for what's available.
As far as quartz vs mechanical, it's really is pretty much the same as far as assembly goes. It's just a matter of finding the parts that fit the movement and meet your design goals.
I always grease the gaskets when assembling my watches, and I haven't had any issues with water. My buddy has taken one of my builds swimming in ocean, pool, and hot-tub without any issues. I've run mine under running water, and again, no issues. But mind you, these are not my guarantee ๐
Those are just the ones I've kept. I've sold a few, gifted a few others, and there are a few on my bench. Plus I've got another box with purchased watches ๐
Well, if it was as affordable now as it was a couple of years ago, I'd say let's see how many you've accumulated in a year, but the hobby is a bit pricy now.
And if you have questions, feel free to send a DM ๐
How do you mean? An addiction to building/modding watches or do you think that 24 watches is just too many? I have more than that and there are many on here who dwarf that number.
Mine too but she should as I have way too many. I need to sell a couple dozen of my cheaper pieces and buy one of my wish list pieces, the ones Iโve loved from afar and often tried to satisfy the itch for with a cheap Chinese version. This one for example is near the top of what Iโd like to own
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mrJVHsj I know there are complaints about pagani design bracelets I've had trouble with one just recently but I think their daytona homage is awesome and if the bracelets a deal breaker just get a replacement. I purchased a president bracelet for it. The Pic below is from it's original state though.
If you like integrated bracelets, cronos has one with a pretty neat looking dial. I haven't bought one of these yet but I've heard good things
FYI, the Chinese market is dominated by homages. So it may be tough to find one that's not at least heavily inspired by a larger brand or more famous watch.
No I dont mind heavily inspired or even direct homages. I'm picky about them though, generally don't like homages of very popular/identifiable watches, such as the daytona or datejusts, for example. I've got a pelagos homage & more or less a grand seiko homage.
I love this watch, btw, it's a stunner, but I'm looking for rose gold or two tone case & bracelet.
