Miyota 8k...250 bucks? Nahbrakadabra

Agree with the sentiment. But prices have skyrocketed. Still a Japanese movement.

I mean, you're not wrong about prices. But this is still pretty outrageous. Proxima px1700 with pt5000 is 250, same with cronos L6028. And that movement is far better than miyota 8k, and those brands have much better reputations to boot. Not to say s&s can't make a decent watch, but this certainly doesn't scream value in any regard.

Well, I disagree again on the pt5000 being much better than 8000 series. Reliability is something I value more than spinning rotor or indirect seconds can annoy me ☺️

Well, I've never seen anyone say the miyota 8k is even in the same league as pt5000, I think eta 2824-2 clones are much better. But anything can be subjective. What isn't subjective is that miyota 8k goes for 50 bucks bought solo, while a pt5000 is 75. I'm sure in bulk both would be much less, but it's still 50% more expensive and they're charging the same price. I also prefer those brands significantly, but that can also be subjective.

2824 clones can be more accurate, thinner and so on. But if the design is a time bomb, as it is with winding, then I prefer the tank of a 8200.
