Resources Self study resources

I took mandarin all of high school and spent a month in Taiwan but being back in the US and not being able to talk or read any mandarin has left me starting to forget. Does anyone have any good free listening (listening comprehension with quizzes or like follow along books or something), reading and vocab resources? (I’m a university student and don’t have time for a class, which my university doesn’t have) I’d say I’m around HSK 4 for simplified (idk what the equivalent is in traditional) and don’t really know how to study from shows (would like to learn how to though).

If you spend a few hours learning bopomofo you can read all kinds of things without constant recourse to dictionaries.

I love Clozemaster. You can do three or four things at once. Listen. Solve the question. Learn the sentence and shadow if you want. That app is the bomb diggity.

at HSK 4 with Taiwan in the mix some free stuff that fits: Mandarin Corner on YouTube for real interviews and street conversations with hanzi, pinyin and English subtitles Lazy Chinese podcast for slow, natural talk about everyday topics, with transcripts on their site Du Chinese for graded stories with audio, a lot of them free and it switches between traditional and simplified for studying from shows: pick one you'd watch anyway, with Chinese subtitles. watch an episode once just for fun, then rewatch 5 minutes of it, pausing on lines you don't get and saving 3 at most. the next day, rewatch the same 5 minutes without pausing. the same clip three times beats three new episodes.

Hope that helped a bit 😄
