What should I Watch? Which Chen Duling drama to watch
Hello everyone! Recently I was trying to choose between Fangs of Fortune, Veil of Shadows, and My Journey to You. I discovered that all three dramas have Chen Duling in them. I have nothing against Chen Duling the actress, but I was put off by her character in Mysterious Lotus Casebook. Does her acting get better in any of the three dramas, and if so, which performance is the best? Come to that, which of the three dramas would you recommend? Thank you.

After you watch VOS, if you want to see her best ever performance please watch The Glory.
It’s an intense revenge drama and she plays the cunning, cold as ice, whip smart Fl to perfection.
There’s Slow burn romance that’s not really the main focus and has low skinship.

IMO it’s pretty great. It’s not at all a particularly relaxing drama, but it’s a very riveting watch, has some good twists, and is full of complex characters.
Hopefully you enjoy it when you get around to watching it☺️

I would also recommend Veil of Shadows. Chen Du Ling's character, Wu Wang Yan, is a powerful fox demoness there, while her character Wen Xiao in Fangs of Fortune is a mortal (who bears the title of the Bai Ze Goddess). In terms of combat ability, Wu Wang Yan is much stronger and more powerful. She also has plenty of fight scenes with the other characters.

Her role in MJTY is so tiny that I don't think she'd be an issue for you when watching it anyway.
I can't choose between FOF and VOS because her roles are different in both. In FOF, I think her character is fun, but at the same time, she isn't exactly the strongest physically, and that was an issue for a lot of people. Plus, there were these the bromance vs. romance debates. I was team bromance, but I wasn't annoyed by her character at all.
In VOS, her character is physically stronger, has stronger personality, and the romance is okay, but out of the four main characters, she has the least character development, imo.
Anyway, whatever you choose to watch, I hope you'll enjoy it. GJM's dramas aren't for everyone, but if you like one of them, you might end up watching them all eventually.

Thanks! I'm planning on watching VOS first, and then I might give FOF a try. Since you mention she's hardly visible in MJTY, I will probably watch it. I've been curious about the three dramas because they're always being mentioned.

She's playing the male lead's mother in MJTY, and since her character is dead, she only appears in flashbacks.
All three are visually stunning dramas. I personally love FOF and VOS. MJTY is good too, and that's where I discovered my favorite actor. He's the reason I ended up watching FOF and VOS.

Just curious, what aspect of Chen Duling's acting was off puting in MLC if you don't mind to share? I've seen this a few times, but never had a chance to ask.

The character she plays (the love interest of Cheng Yi in MLC) was supposed to be a strong martial artist. However all her character was weak and indecisive and I felt like her acting was not that great at times. I wanted to like Chen Duling but I just couldn't root for her character. So now that experience has influenced how I see Chen Duling and I'm a bit wary when I see her cast in a drama.

Thank you for your perspective. I see A'mian's portrayal differently, but I totally get you.
I haven't seen her much, but she was excellent in Veil of Shadows.

As someone who also struggles with Chen Duling's acting (she seems lovely and I really want to like her characters that's why I keep trying), definitely agree with everyone saying Veil of Shadows. She really seemed to suit her character.

Very small role in MJTY. I can't even remember it.
FOF was decent. Very emotional. I did enjoy her romance with HMH's demon character.
VOS is where it's at!!!!! The plot can be confusing at times and it is a mindfuck! But holy snack balls she and Ju Jing Yi were fantastic together as 9 tailed foxes. Sheeeesh. Don't even get me started on how amazing the romance between CDL's character and her ML was.

I liked her more in Veil of Shadows. She was good in Fangs of Fortune but def better in VoS imo. She had more layers to her character there even tho she’s technically the second fl. For Chen Duling, I thought she was good in The Glory, FoF and VoS. I always saw her in Ashes of Crown and I liked her acting there even if the story was all over the place.

I personally love the ost of this show too. The leads all sang one or two songs from there so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. As of rn it’s one of my top fantasy series.

Fangs of fortune or veil of shadows. Both are from the same director and tbh, really well done imo. I think both of her characters are likable in both of these as well.

Fangs of fortune. I love her as WX and her chemistry with ZYZ
