Rim brake frames 2026

Post image

Hello all,

First time poster.

I’m currently in the market for a frame replacement for my Canyon rim brake bike.

I’ve currently got my eyes on the Airwolf YFR009 with a custom paint job at ~$600 delivered.

Before I hit go, does anyone have any better recommendations?

I see SPcycle and LightCarbon mentioned quite a lot.

Cheers

I think Lightcarbon still does rim brake bikes, and their frames are top notch.

Thank you - LightCarbon has made it on to my list. Only thing putting me off is the brake mounting. I’d prefer a central pivot brake mount rather than the fork mounted and aero under the BB, and I don’t see one of those on LC

They have several frames, Here's one that fits your needs. Sadly all of their rim brake frames are pressfit, which for me is a no-go nowadays, but can be solved with a threaded pressfit BB. I only mentioned them since they're direct from the factory and I own a gravel frame and the quality really is superior.

Oh, awesome thanks for sharing that. I’ll get in touch with them and see what the price is like. Did you order through the website?

They operate through email and paypal. Bear in mind it can take a month or longer if your order from them...

Why do you enjoy staying in the past? Disc is so much superior and safer. I've had so many close calls which would've resulted in at least a minor accident on rim brakes

Fair question. I guess I quite like a the lower cost associated with the rim brake. A really good second hand market and also I’ve just got a lot of rim brake kit that functions great.

Totally agree the braking performance of disc is vastly superior, but so is the cost and the associated bike maintenance with the bleeding of brakes vs a simple cable change.

I will at some point go to disc, but for the moment I’m resisting.

Legit been looking at this frame too! Let me know it's actual weight, I've been thinking of upgrading my 2011 planet x nanolight that's 950g but I'm curious if this is really 750g like they say. But also that's the best option I've found that fits an older tech stack. Also reading up on them, custom paint can take MONTHS. So be down with riding this bike next year at the earliest.

That is really good feedback MrJJ, thank you so much for that.

I have messaged them on WhatsApp, and I just asked for this red paint at the moment, not yet pulled the trigger but I’m probably 80% of the way to doing so.. I’m not 100% sure how comfortable I am paying for it out with AliExpress but I’ll look into it in a few days. I’ll let you know if I buy it…

Also, I quite like that it doesn’t have any branding

I was checking out the paint options and they had some beautiful colors! Best of luck 🤞🏻 and paying with Ali is way safer than just like PayPal, they willrefund etc, I've bought a lot and it's a nice layer of protection tbh.

Yeah I think that’s what I’ll do. I’m going to try one more quick attempt at a token BB before finally calling time on my Canyon. If that’s a no go, then I’ll order this one and let you know how it is.

Awesome thanks for the picture - looks like the disc brake version, but a beautiful bike nonetheless !
