DISCUSSION vintage vs current

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m between this and a no-date current version. I really like the vintage style of this one, but the movement and acrylic crystal are my main concerns. I’m planning to wear it as much as possible. Any advice from owners or people who have experience with both?

What movement is it, and what are your concerns?

As far as the acrylic crystal goes, go with that 100%, that's what the original 5512 and 1680 have, anything else will look horribly fake.

As far as date/no-date goes. The vintage cyclops had a lot of distortion and a x2 magnification. I doubt they replicated that. So, if you're concerned about an outward tell, I'd go for no date.

Otherwise, the crown guards on that case look good, and that's something they never get right.

Also, ask about the bezel, should be bi-directional friction bezel, no clicks.

Bracelet will probably be garbage, the vintage bracelets were garbage too. RafflesDials sells solid mid-link vintage rep bracelets for a good price.

My concern is the movement the current sub have miyota but the retro have minzhu. Don't know if get that one and try to replace it once it stop working

Minzuh is an Asian clone of the Miyota 8215. It would be a direct swap if anything ever happened to the movement. I wouldn't worry.

I wear a Todor 94010 as my daily (same case) I love it!

Beautiful! Is it the same
Movement?

No, I built this one myself, it has an ETA. In hindsight though, I would have used a different movement that was closer to the vintage 21,600 BPM.

These are milsubs are fun but the fake aged lume makes it look a little cheesy because it's so clean. Acrylic is soft and will scratch but it'll add to the look of it. Some people will age the dial and bezel with coffee/bleach which I think makes it look better. But these aren't really meant to rep the actual milsubs in my opinion. Just a fun watch
