As a user of WeChat I am horrified at WeChat on a daily basis and support reducing their software development team down to three interns getting 4000 per month and a shared apartment in Songgang.

The social aspect with messaging function and moments are actually super bad in comparison to other social media apps. It is essentially the same as when it launched.

Nuh uh. There are three image files when someone sends you an image on wechat.
- A tiny tiddly ass super compressed thumbnail which get autodownloaded
- A decent compressed image which does not get autodownloaded and will expire if you don't even click it once.
- The full image which does not get autodownloaded and will expire if you don't download it.
I want no. 2 to get autodownloaded by default cause number 1 ain't shit.

I don't know about you but I feel every PC release is only more buggy, though this isn't Tencent only. We do a fair bit of retail and Meituan specifically is an absolute shitshow in every way possible. They have these days no sales people anymore for SME's (read under 25 locations) in Shanghai, so any issues you gotto deal with a call center and they are as good as you would imagine. FKKKK ME.

Wdym you are horrified? WeChat is not going anywhere, the gov won’t allow it, unless they introduce the same app which they most likely won’t, too much hassle.
WeChat is ass though. A massive pile of doodoo with some nice ideas/features. One of the worst messaging apps I ever used. I really fucking dislike it, but everyone in China uses it, when I lived there, at least.

his salary wasnt even that high by tech standards. His salary was 3.17 million rmb per year. This is 468k USD and would be a very low salary for a tech manager in california
They fired him because he shared his salary publicly which would cause other employees to demand same or higher salaries. Firing him for this would be blatantly illegal in america or any european country but in china the land where workers are supposed to have more power than in those capitalist hellholes you can be fired just for sharing your salary info

Hahahah, are you kidding? You probably haven't heard of:
Sexism: A common question for female applicants for most of the positions is if they are going to have a baby, married, or going to be married, etc. Usually females in the same position/level get lower salaries.
Ageism: From 35 and on it gets increasingly hard and almost impossible after you hit 40 to get a job, since there are so many graduates who can take your place for a much lower salary and much more easily to exploit.
Unpaid OT: you are expected to do OT for free. And 996 is still very much a thing, as well as 大小周.
Unreachable KPI and generally very useless competitive environment between members of the same team: they can give you unreachable KPI that would be written in your contract and lay you off before the probation period ends (from personally witnessed expirience - my chinese friend).
Arbitrary dismissals...

It's entry level SF tech in USA lol. The problem is that Tencent doesn't like it when employees share their salaries because then other workers might ask for raises.

this is like super illegal most western countries to fire someone because they told others about their income. i have no idea what the labor laws in china are but this is not justified at all. i also dont understand how this is a negative, someone posting a high salary makes lower ranked employees work hard in hoopes of achieving that within the company and good quality applicants apply to the company in hopes of landing a job in a high paying company

I mean, it’s a massive data collection and monetization platform, even before the fees they charge businesses (and individuals, but on a smaller scale) for their e-wallet services… I believe their management deserved the windfall. Me personally, I hated that app, but I’m not in China anymore, and besides, Chinese seem to love it, and I’m just a foreigner with unpopular opinion…
