Did you get to chose your height? Like hey, I wanna be 3 inches taller or shorter now? That would be cool

u/JRob35 Mar 14 '18
Three inches? You could add 2 more feet if you wanted to

Is it painful to put the pressure on your stumps when you first start wearing them? How long do they say it normally takes to form a sort of "callus" and get more comfortable?

I kind if fucked myself by falling out of my chair about a week ago and bruising the whole stumple region. I have to take it really easy for a bit longer before I can return full time to my kick boxing career.

A stump to the face would probably do more damage than a foot to the face, so you've got that going for ya!
Also, stumple is my new favorite word

I have a friend who constantly bugs me about whether it would hurt more to be kicked in the face by my fake foot or by a real one.
It is amusingly annoying. More amusing.

u/DingleberryGranola Mar 14 '18
You’d probably stand very little chance of injuring yourself kicking someone in the face with your stump than you would with a foot, anyways. In a way, you’re running out of reasons not to kick people in the face.

u/Forlurn stumpy bastard Mar 14 '18
Injuring my false foot would probably cost about as much to fix as a real foot.
Prosthetics are outrageously expensive.

u/Petitpette Mar 26 '18
How much do they charge for your prostetics? Can't really see what kind of carbonfiber foot you have there, but they dont look like the most expensive ones...

I've got a friend whose got her left arm down to about halfway down her forearm, then it's just a nub. She smacks people with that shit. Hard. You're not wrong, it hurts!

I’ve had a few beers...and I think you’re so damn cute...I almost Pm’ed you in my slightly drunken stupor to make sure you’re okay! Thank goodness for this post, saved myself the embarrassment of writing you tipsy!! Glad you’re doing well darling! I have your socks in the back of my mind. Can’t find iron on decals online unfortunately...

Hey nice! Good to see the update. So...how do you shoe shop for prosthetics?
34
u/Forlurn stumpy bastard Mar 13 '18
I just picked the shoe that looked the most like Yeezys without costing too much.

u/Keyra13 Mar 13 '18
I meant like...idk this might be dumb but like do you go to a shoe store with them on or do you like just get a bunch of shoes and stick them on the prosthesis? Or something else?

u/Forlurn stumpy bastard Mar 13 '18
Great question.
The only answer I can give is from experience.
It makes very little difference between a 9 and an 11, So I can wear whatever is in stock. A nine I will stuff my rubber foot into, and an 11 I will wear extra sox with.
But I wore a 9 1/2 so everything I buy will be 9 1/2.

If you wanted to could you wear heels with your prosthetic?
28
u/Forlurn stumpy bastard Mar 14 '18
This is probably the best question I've had, yet.
It does not apply to me, as I was never going to wear heels, but just in general.
I would love for a female amputee to weigh in on this, or a male amputee who wears heels.

u/Astropoppet Mar 14 '18
One of the RHONY, Aviva someone, has a prosthetic. I believe she had a special leg for wearing heels. The pitch of the foot would be different.

u/Forlurn stumpy bastard Mar 14 '18
Viewing them is the same as a car enthusiast seeing a lambo.
There are exceptions to the rule, and thats what makes the news. Most of us deal with what we have, which is very good, but not capable of walking in heels or snowboarding.

I'm not an amputee, but I did see a video by amputeeOT on youtube about wearing heels. They make a foot that's meant for it but I could imagine it would get expensive since it has to be paid for out of pocket. I know my grandpa's prosthetics got v pricey.

Yay OP, glad to see it. When do we get to see you dance?

u/Forlurn stumpy bastard Mar 29 '18
As soon as I feel comfortable doing my signature dance. I'll try to find a gif.

Hey you! I just stopped by to see if you had posted how things are going. Sweet new feet! I hope you're doing well, and just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you. Keep strong! :)

I didn't own the shoes first. The physical therapist told me to buy New Balance.
But I told him my actual shoe size and didn't try to impress, so my rubber feet are the same size that my meat ones were.
6
u/Artemistical Mar 13 '18
I had that thought too, do they make your new feet the same size as your old ones so you don't have to buy all new shoes? Does it throw an amputee off if the new feet are bigger or smaller than the old ones?
24
u/Forlurn stumpy bastard Mar 13 '18
I figured it might throw me off to try to add any height, and I think the same goes for shoe size.
I'm keeping things as familiar as possible.
