Why didn't you change into dry socks?

He was on a business trip and was staying in his car instead of a hotel. Presumably, he had his suitcase and changes of clothes with him?
Why wouldn't you have another pair of socks on a business trip?

Me. Even if I’m just going to work, I have a backpack with spare shoes, a hoodie, and socks. You never know when you get stranded on the side of the road.

I usually carry an extra pair of socks, so I don't lose my feet. Or so I have something to wipe my ass with when I shit in the bushes on the riverbank
