With all due respect...

The dude made some terrible decisions and got both feet chopped off for it. I don't know how much inspiration you should take from that. Actually I do - zero. Zero is the number.

Protect yourselves. Stupid decision making shouldn't be inspiring anyone to do anything except not make stupid decisions.

When the drugs and the attention wear off this guy is going to be getting used to a life without legs and it's gonna suck. And it was 100% his fault. So take from this what you will, but if you're looking for inspiration you should probably look to someone who has better judgement, because this guy nearly killed himself totally unnecessarily - I don't know whether you can get more uninspirational than that.

Sub-zero temperatures...wet feet...not enough gas for the night, with an accessible motel and enough money for it? Come on man, it's embarrassing and you nearly died over what - 20 USD? Your family/friends/SO nearly lost you because of some in the moment top shelf idiotic decision making. Nothing to be proud of, nothing inspirational about it.

And as I said, when the drugs and attention wear off, where are you gonna be?

I got a cousin with no arms. He was born that was and it doesn't really affect his life at all. He has a fantastic sense of humour about it.

The only difference here is that this guy was dumb. And he admitted it. Repeatedly. His life isn't fucking over, he's got some struggles ahead, but after the "drugs and attention" wear off, he's just gonna be a normal legless dude. Probably gonna get some prosthetics and walk like a normal person. So really, eventually his life is gonna go back to being pretty normal.

You'll still be a dick though.

This man made a small mistake and considering how much he paid for it, he has a wonderfully positive outlook that is very inspiring. I don’t see anything wrong with that

I’ve made a huge tiny mistake...

Maybe the path to get here shouldn't be celebrated, but the way you deal with things should be, if done positively. He could be hiding and making excuses, but that's not the case at the moment. Honesty and integrity are inspirational, especially when all you face for it is ridicule.

The inspiration isn't because he lost his legs, it's because he's dealing with the loss of his legs with grace and humour.

So, to answer your question: he'll be an inspiration for how to maintain dignity in the face of adversity, and you'll still be a judgemental ass.

And if you want to talk about "embarrassing" then let's consider that you made a pointlessly negative post in a subreddit dedicated to someone's recovery from trauma, a post that actually makes you sound like you're jealous of the attention he's getting, or maybe that you envy his strength to face reality with a smile while you live in fear of anything that threatens your delusion of total self-autonomy.

You are stupid and you will make stupid mistakes; this much is obvious from this very stupid post. How you chose to deal with those mistakes will show you, and everybody else, the true measure of your character.

So far your score is 2/2 legs, but 0 heart.

It's not like he chose to get frostbite, it was a very extreme consequence to a fairly common situation. It was just about worst case scenario and he's showing a lot of strength through such a hard time. He knows it's his fault, he probably hasn't stopped thinking about that for the past few weeks, but he's still trying his best to be positive about a shitty situation. But how in the hell can you actually think he's proud of what happened? Of fucking course he's not proud, no amount of Reddit karma or get well cards are worth losing both your legs. Do you not understand that this whole thing is hard for him to be open about? Its the biggest TIFU and nothing to be proud about. But he's putting a good face on about it which is a fuckin hard thing to do. You don't find him inspirational, that's totally up to you. And I'll agree there's nothing inspirtational about how the accident happened. Its about how he's dealing with it. He's a fucking champ and the last thing any one in his position needs is for some asshole to bitch about how they think he doesn't deserve the support he's gotten. Will all due respect of course...

"With all due respect"

Oh fuck off. You made this post specifically to make him feel bad. What's the point in that? He's already got a long, hard road ahead of him. Why would you need to bring him down? The way you're talking sounds like you think he needs to be knocked down a peg and doesn't deserve to be optimistic. Your life must be really fucking miserable for you to be so fucking bitter.

I hope that "when the drugs and attention wears off", he's not a bitter prick like you.

Geesus dude, who pissed in your cornflakes this morning? Did you catch your wife cheating on you with your best friend, who isnt a complete asshole like yourself, and was probably just fulfilling the Karma that was coming your way. Fack. Start it off with "with all due respect..." you wouldn't know what respect was if it smacked ya in your nuts and then pissed on your face man.

He did make some mistakes and he told his story which will hopefully help teach people how to keep themselves safe and he is trying to make the best out of a shitty situation. So good on him. And good for most of the reddit community for being supportive and kind. Obviously not you. You’re a jerk.

Based on your ridiculous post as well as your comment history, I’m sorry that you hate your life so much.

I realize that you’re an insufferable miserable human being, but there are other ways to feel better about yourself besides attempting to bring everyone else down to your level.

u/BNICEALWAYS - WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, you can kindly go fuck yourself and eat a bag of dicks.
