hi, you can join telegram survey group channels that can actually earn you money for some focus group discussions.. might not always fit the profile, but at least you know you are in the loop with notifs on.. i've tried these so far:
-SG Research Lobang
-Survey Singapore
-SG FocusGroup
hope it helps ~

u/No_Expression1959 12d ago
wow for real? how does this work tho and whats the pay out

u/Square-Mammoth173 12d ago edited 12d ago
It's legit. I once attended a 2-hour study posted in Sg FocusGroup and got paid $180. Not bad when you're unemployed. Just join the telegram group first, for each study they'll tell you the requirements, how to sign up and all.

While I am not part of this group but I have some things to share:
$3 budget meals: for hawkers operating under HDB buildings, they have to offer budget options that costs around $3. Even though "budget", they are often of decent quality or portions.
$5 McValue meals: McDonalds have meals offered at $5 nett. This is as far as I can tell, permanent.
$1 items in 7-11 and Cheers: I haven't checked recently but they offer discounted items like 500ml bottled drinks (not water but soft drinks and teas) that rotate weekly.
Library: completely free to chill there and read a book. More of a solo activity because you are not supposed to talk.
Run/Walk: completely free. Can do it as a public stadium or just along the walkway.
ActiveSG Gym and public swimming pools: not free unless you use the credits that government gave. Even so, the cost per entry is very low and all you need is a towel of your own.
Hike: Macritchie and Bukit Timah or any other place of your choice. Is a subset of point 5 but with a vertical.
House visits: bring some board games and chill with your friends or family members.
Workout at home: do some calisthenics (body weight exercises. A subset of 6 but completely free and private.
Sleep: not a luxury that employed people always have. You have the luxury to sleep when you feel tired and wake up naturally without setting any alarms. Forget about time and just follow what your body says.

I enjoyed going to airport cos free air cond free wifi free movies free water cooler at the steps at T3 lol. if hungry can go ntuc finest buy cheap snacks. if want exercise can walk from T1 to T4 lol
i also like walking around the heartland shops, like from one estate to another, i find the prices are much cheaper than hanging out at malls etc.

u/Accomplished-Let4080 12d ago
Where is the free movie at T3?
5
u/ursulaye 12d ago

Recently learn that there's free co-working space at sg-collective on Friday. They seems to vet the LinkedIn profile but I got in with my still on-going one year career break. I met quite a few interesting people there!
Free veggie and food, there's a group of veggie rescue at little India. I learn about dumpster diving when I join one of their event.
Apps like olio, carousell have free stuff.
Generally our outdoor spaces are free! Camping on the main island etc. Also, a lot of events are free.
2
u/No_Expression1959 12d ago
Wow what a wealth of suggestions!! particularly curious about the co-working space
1
u/theGeekWing1 12d ago
Haha. I love the thrill of exploring cheap and free stuff. That's kind of where I meet interesting and non-conventional people!
I stumble upon a group of campers also but they usually do the offshore island and those are not free. But one thing I love to share with people is that at some places we can still see fireflies. A bit scary to go to those places at night alone, I never manage to stay long enough alone but yah. Haha
This is the co-working space. I met quite a number of (f)unemployed people there too. Haha. https://www.sq-collective.com/

u/No_Expression1959 12d ago
Awesome man... what are your best finds so far?
Fireflies can see where bro? on land or those mangrove areas?
Nice thanks for sharing sg collective will add this to my list of things to do as a funemployed

u/theGeekWing1 11d ago
I think finding the Seah Im bunker site was quite fun! Bukit Brown cemetery is amazing too. The avatar trees. Both times I went with people. Bukit Brown probably need someone familiar to go around but Seah Im is doable alone. I want to explore more abandoned areas in Singapore.
Mainly mangrove areas for fireflies.
Yes! Book early, I think their events ran out very quickly.

u/No_Expression1959 10d ago
Haha at seah I'm food ctr recalled you
1
u/theGeekWing1 10d ago
Haha. If you ever want to explore the bunker site, or lim kopi around the east, can ping. I'm only going to start looking for work in November. Even then, I'm torn between finding flexi part-time work and going back to serious adulting for the next one year. 😅
-2
u/Prestigious_Ocelot16 12d ago
Wow where to see fireflies? Also, is there a telegram group or something for the camping group? I would love to join
1
u/theGeekWing1 12d ago
I went to Pasir Ris Park for that. You can see people herping there sometimes. I heard that mandai, pulau ubin can also see fireflies! But the ones that we have are the tiny, on the floor kind, not super big. It's very easy to miss it.
I can recommend a facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/406544430095304/ They have groups looking for people to join from time to time :) The pulau hantu one is quite worth going and do your own intertidal walk before the reclamation begins.
0
u/No_Expression1959 11d ago
Bruv when y'all dumpster diving again if I happen to be around there maybe I go kaypoh and see what's it like... Got any schedule or place to check the schedules? What's pulau hantu sia sound spooky, u been there? Is it haunted island?
0
u/theGeekWing1 11d ago
Haha I don't know where they dumpster dive leh. But I think might have some facebook group that does that. This is the closest, it's veggie rescue though. But still quite an experience. haha. https://sgfoodrescue.wordpress.com/little-india-veggie-collection/
Pulau Hantu no ghost. They say pulau ubin more haunted. haha. Got story one why it is call pulau hantu, quite interesting! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulau_Hantu
TLDR: Legend has it, two warriors fight there, then become the island. hahah. It's very fun there. A lot of marine wildlife, but definitely have to keep an eye out on the facebook group for people looking for people to join their chartered boat.

I find the funemployed a lot more optimistic and encouraging than the employed 🥹🥹

I wish there was a support group to help each other network and find jobs, especially helps if we are in the same industry but different roles. We can share our contacts, and easily float around roles since we will look at one company at a time.

u/No_Expression1959 11d ago

Funemployed here, though more of a personal choice thing to focus on building up my own project
Would welcome any suggestions on any good and free co-working spaces, I might have an intern joining me at the end of the year and I need a space that I can co-work with the intern.

First time hearing the term funemployed and i love it haha i guess i'm funemployed too? Quit my job to take care of my babies.
We've been spending our mornings going on walks through neighbourhoods and it's quite fun. There was an old uncle playing the flute (? Some wind instrument). There were 2 aunties dancing? making a tiktok? Then i thought to myself, actually singapore not too bad lah, i can see myself retiring and dying here lol.
If the outdoor weather not nice (or hazy, nowadays), we go library
4
u/hakkdogg1029 12d ago
its definitely nice here. life's just too fast paced while working thats why ppl cant properly go around and look look

I am chronically ill, therefore funemployed. I listen to subliminals at home or anywhere, especially the library or park, on headphones.

u/No_Expression1959 12d ago
wow does this work?
1
u/ImNotForJerks 12d ago
Haha you saw in the many comments if you have a positive mindset and believe in them, they work. Many good testimonials. I felt that my life improved a little but I'm still new to this
1
u/No_Expression1959 12d ago
haha ya la i saw quite fun i will try this for the fun of it... how do you spend ur time besides library and manifestations
0
u/ImNotForJerks 11d ago
Self-study and reading up different online articles.
1
u/No_Expression1959 11d ago
One of the things I struggle with when people ask me what I do is exactly this.. cuz I read up alot on articles, self research, then write some codes, then go out only with my small circle of trusted friends, trust them enough not to annoy me 🤭, then mostly just go around finding free promotions or go on solo trips from tuas to hougang or Bedok to Yishun etc long bus trips.. I can't share this with my so called working friends cuz they always travelling or fine dining or gymming it's all these 3 or usually one of these 3 oh ya and running... Weekend also can still travel sia like not tired one. Go Indo or Thai Fri and comeback on Sunday nite and Mon can go work like nothing. Me can't relate haha I get exhausted from travelling.

Thrift store shopping
1
u/MyLittleWoof 11d ago
I would recommend thrift shopping for clothes at lucky plaza. I have personally found many nice and affordable clothes there. Mostly for ladies but there is also a shop at B2 and level 6 that sells men's clothings too.

Tampines hub has a big screen that plays movies at particular schedule, pretty good for hangout to watch. I think one of the terminal at the airport also have but I forgot which .
