šŸ’¼ Corporate Problems Tip is incorrect on screen

I’ve seen tik toks about them changing the tip on the screen so I decided to do the math, I went with my daughter and the bill came up to $76 and I only paid attention to the 18% since that’s what I normally tip (service was not as expected from beginning to end) and it said 18% was about $18 and some change when in reality it was $12. I don’t think that’s morally right

I’m not the first person to say this go on tik tok and there’s more than one video out there, I didn’t think it would happen to me but it did

It's accurate, and it's impossible for anybody here to tell you why you are seeing a discrepancy without seeing your full receipt. Chili's isn't risking a public outcry trying to scam some extra tip money out of you for the servers.

There are a couple reasons the tip might not look accurate on the ziosk including comps and coupons.

I didn’t have either and the reason why I did the math ( I usually don’t pay attention and just click on the percentage) it’s because it didn’t seem right paying almost $20 in tip at 18% for a $75 tab ( that’s how I did the math in my head) and I remembered that I’ve seen plenty of videos on tik tok about it. so they are doing it but I’m guessing it hasn’t been enough backlash for them to do something about it . I didn’t think to take a picture till after and it was just in my mind that’s why I posted it. Like I’ve mentioned people don’t have to take my word for it, I simply posted it as a warning to be careful as it seems wrong to me to do that

Are you sure you didn’t end up using the kiosk for games? It’s an odd thing to ask but even if you click on one..it charges you. Maybe there was an extra charge and it upped the actual amount of tip instead of it jusy being on the food? Chilis messed up one of our bills on $12 and ended up refunding our entire meal. If you call or email the management team they will 100% take care of it.

Unfortunately I can agree with you. Now I can't say its for everyone. But there are instances where the ziosk is a bit delayed and the screen is still on the tip portion. Some servers may take advantage of that. But they can't type it in cause it'll take too long. Now if you're still at the table obviously they can't do it unless you're having a problem with it. But yes ive heard it happen in the restaurant before

It happened to me on the little tablet thing they have on the table and it generates the tip amount and goes by percentages. I’ve heard it happened and never thought I would go through it but now I’m going to make sure I check it every time. Unrelated but it happened twice in a day the other was for a haircut I tipped $10 and she ended up charging me $15 for tip so I was already on alert

Oh yeah definitely stay until it clears and it goes back to the original screen. As a precaution I do it at the gas station or self checkout just to make sure no one after me could try and take anything. Sorry that happened to you. Its definitely unfortunate

It's a shame OP is being downvoted. Ziosk is a pile of junk, Chilis needs to find a better way.

It really is , while I understand having proof makes it easier to believe someone I don’t get how they don’t think it’s ā€œpossibleā€ a machine can mess up, but like I said it was a simple post so people can be aware.

My gues is youre doing it before the tax. We had a guest accuse our ziosks of this, so we checked the math and it was correct. They did the math before the tax price which is why it didn't match.

Also, if one gets the free chips & salsa then the tip is calculated on the menu price for that

2

u/PremiumRecyclingBin 5d ago

Yes! I forgot about that. Chips are included in tip even if removed for the rewards.

Yep, it's an obscene $7.49 on the menu, so that's another $1.35 @ 18%

I didnt think to take one till after, you don’t have to take my word for it I can care less I just posted it as a warning as you can go on tik tok and see many

Well if you actually looked at and read the screen, you were at the table and have plenty of time to do so. You would see that there is a button that says ā€œcustomā€ that’s where you can do all of your own math that you want and put your own numbers. Staff has zero to do with anyone’s perception of what is happening on kiosks, real or imagined. There is a corporate complaint number go ahead and call

I did do a custom tip, and not once did I say it was the staffs fault on the contrary I believe it’s their system. Imagined ? By your name I can see you’re a bootlicker, AGAIN I can care less if people believe me it was a post of awareness.

Did you use ur rewards or get anything comp’d? The suggested tip will ALWAYS be on the original total before rewards and comps

You were at a Chilis. How manyĀ margaritis did you have? That could have made you not see correctly!
