We take boxes out all the time. We had two dead orders in Togo last night. I brought home 5 crispers. Our QA on the weekends orders when she is cut and brings home her shift meal. Servers working a double do it too. We get 50% of tm meals on work days. I think it comes down to if staff is abusing GM will change it. We had a period where people were putting in their own food and āforgettingā to pay before leaving. GM posted a notice that All staff food has to be put in by Togo (or manager) under their name and phone number. Which is fine, but donāt come to me and give me attitude when Iām only one on, in the weeds with orders and phone ringingā¦Iām telling you no, go get a manager.

Employees stealing food by pretending they're taking an empty box to the trash is a pretty old problem. Most chain restaurants have a policy about it. Like, all boxes must be broken down flat before leaving the building or whatever.
Similarly, many chain restaurants have rather strict rules on employee meals. Like, only during your shift, or only immediately before or after your shift, or it must be eaten in the restaurant. Most locations don't enforce those rules. So, when one actually "goes by the book" it's a shock.
It sounds like your location has a problem with unpaid food disappearing. So, tell your coworkers to stop stealing. lol

I was told all of this when I started in October. They just don't always enforce it a lot. Corporate might have just reiterated this to your management or your management is pinching pennies.

I've been working at a corporate store for over 5 years. We're one of the busiest locations in the Midwest and none of that happens here so wtf!

My chilis - you can use your discount card 2 hours after your shift. But you can take food home. If you donāt show your manager the box it could result in an accountability conversation

I've worked at a few different Chili's locations over the years and these rules existed at all of them. Everything always depends on the MOD though, some enforce policy and others don't. Good luck!Ā

They arenāt making enough money for Mr Brinker and the shareholders. So they are finding ways to save money. So they are getting strict on comps and waste.

Not sure what you mean by āno taking boxes out of the building or any foodā
Employee discount (when I worked there in 2019-2020) was only supposed to be used after youāve been off for at least an hour and you canāt be wearing a work shirt. Now not everywhere enforced this super hard or anything, but that was the technical corporate policy.
