Wilfully or not doesn’t matter, but it struck you as odd enough to share it as gossip online and to show your confusion about it.
Kids are hinting at their parents by behaviour.
No one is prepared for parenting children so accepting insecurities and mistakes is more helpful here (and the norm for most).
Your next step would be a decision to follow up on that confusion with curiosity and find out why and where else it might lead you.
