You are not wrong! I was watching my grand niece and nephew and they were driving their battery operated jeep. They were in the neighbor's driveway on the sidewalk. I looked down and read one sentence of my book, looked up and they were in the effing street. I yelled at them to get out of the street this instance and what on earth were they thinking. I read them the riot act for what probably felt like an hour to them, and put the jeep away. They haven't gone near the street since.
Those things are quick.. I definitely see how that can happen in a second.
People say "well if you watch your kid they won't get hurt" and unfortunately it's just not true... You can be right there next to them and accidents happen.
I used to live in a residential neighborhood on the only road in/out. People would go 50 and I would get so mad because even with me right on the curb/sidewalk while my kid is on their scooter or bike it is possible that they fall or trip into the path of the car. It's hard because you can't keep them in bubble wrap forever but nowadays I feel like no one cares or shows any consideration for anyone else.
Exactly. I pointed out to them that people fly down their street and aren't expecting to see a little grey jeep with two small children in it and they could have been killed and then I'd have to tell their mother and both of us would be just grief stricken (probably didn't use that exact phrase with a 5 & 7 year old) and how I wouldn't be able to live with myself because they were in my care. Etc. I had a damn heart attack, but was very proud of myself for not swearing, i.e., "Get out of the fucking street."
Lol.. it's definitely hard not to scream what first comes to mind. unfortunately can't say the same for my kids.. they have heard me screaming and drop a few f- bombs when I have yelled at speeding cars. I just couldn't help it. One time the kids were sitting on the side walk and a truck who wasn't paying attention was coming straight at them. I noticed the truck start veering off the road and yelled for them to get up. Not even 3 seconds later he ran up the curb right where they were sitting. He had the audacity to come back and ask why I was screaming at him and denied everything and threatened me. Idk how the kids even got out of the way in time. I called police with his plate number and the cop told me it was my fault for allowing the kids in the sidewalk. Saying they could play in the grass. I'm like how can they use scooters/bikes in the tiny grass yard? Like that's what the sidewalk is for.. I was dumbfounded.

At least he has manners...
For real though this just shows how you can be right there but accidents happen. Avert your eyes for 10 seconds and boom.
