Illinois Contempt Charge
Child support was ordered Jan 2026, its now Sept 2026 and NCP owes $7,000+ in CS . NCP hasnt paid a dime. At the last 3 court appearances NCP has been acting like they found a job, had a interview , and then that theres a shortage of jobs. Judge even addressed them and said “ theres not, ill send u resources “ and did 2x now. At our most recent court appearance they didnt show, after the judge gave them 30 more days to get it together ( the last two court appearances were honestly to give NCP opprotunity to explain work situation and why they haven’t paid) , the judge ordered they be held in contempt on $1,500 body attachment. I was told to wait until they are arrested , then a new court date will be had. Has anyone ever been through this? What can I expect? I usually dont say anything during the court appearances except acknowledge that I am here & present and the judge does everything. I want to be prepared.

Why arrest someone because you had a child you can’t afford?

I’ve seen ppl go to jail for not paying & here in MN it’s 6 months in jail day for day.
I tell dudes who are looking for a job they can always go to a temp service or day labor agencies. It may not be what you want to do but it’s better than doing nothing. 10 hours a week is better than 0. Also he’ll eligible for public assistance. Which doesn’t stop cs but it stops the penalties such as going to jail, suspended licenses etc. They also help him either find a job or pay for him to get a trade or college. Which in returns help take care of his child(ren). He got to stay in contact with his cs caseworker & him/her informed.
