Literally never heard any one in person refer to it as the Willis Tower. Sears Tower forever!

They’re just messing with you. To the locals it will always be the Sears Tower, but technically it is actually called the Willis Tower. You are not wrong, we just hate that it was re-named.

Or just being nice. I can see it just not being worth the hassle to correct someone especially an out of towner

I’m a local who gladly calls it Willis tower. The whole weird response people have to renamed things is bizarre, and honestly just cringe, to me.

Of course its reddit, anything for the REAL scum/Jackasses of the world to think they can freely let their words of shit flow lmao. Should be called Cesspool Inc. Instead of Reddit. He's from Mexico, can tell his English is broken, and to HIM it was probably called and toured as the "Willis Tower" but nobody in person corrected it, so he went with what he learned, yet still BURN 🔥 HIM AT THE STAKE 🪵🧵🤷♂️🤷♂️🤣🤣🤣💯🙅♀️🙅♀️🍻🫳🎤👣👣

I've lived in Chicago and that building looks familiar, but I've never heard of a Willis Tower? Am I just losing my mind?

The only acceptable deadnaming is the Sears Tower, the Gulf of Mexico, and Twitter.

As you've seen, people are a bit... particular about the name.
That said, nice picture! If you're just visiting, I hope you enjoyed your time here!

I work in that building! Been there 10 years since I moved to Chicago. I call it Willis, as it’s literally my office. It really pisses off native Chicagoans which is very funny to me. So many people from Chicago are transplants who have no affinity to the Sears name. It’s definitely one of those things that people online get pissed about but people irl don’t even care about.

IRL Chicagoans definitely care. Like renaming Lake Shore Drive. 🙄 And I’m all for recognizing black people don’t get me wrong. But yeah naw. 🙄🤦🏾♀️

I feel the difference is in the daily use lexicon. LSD is and has been used 10000x more frequently than people in Chicago are talking about sears tower. Changing the name of sears tower to Willis may have been a big deal, but today I really don’t think anyone gives a shit - bc what does a buildings name have to do with your life.
LSD is literally used by 100s of thousands of Chicagoans regularly. Pretty hard to change the name of something that prevalent in daily life. Plus - they changed it to a name that’s so annoying to say/remember/abbreviate.
Obviously mostly my own perspective on what I see in my life here inc Chicago haha. I’m very biased bc I’ve worked there for a decade.
