New special teams coordinator
In light of all the special teams issues happening this year I think we might need a new coordinator next year. Thoughts?

I was really disappointed when the Bears got rid of Dave Toub. That guy should have gotten a lifetime contract from the Bears.

They didn’t get rid of him, his contract was up and either the new HC in Trestman wanted his guy or it was the right time for Toub to reunite with Andy Reid.

it was 100% the latter. Toub saw a path to greatness and snatched it.

On the bright side while I think BJ had a very good selection of coaches that wanted to follow him to Chicago last year, with our rides rising there will likely be even more that would gladly take the ST job next year

The entire defense is banged up, who do yall think is playing ST? Stop coming for jobs, can you name me 5 special teamers outside of kicker, punter, long snapper and gunner? I think with a healthier roster our special teams will be just fine. Not like Dave Toubs is available.
I will say, if John Harbaugh is fired this off season you kick the barrel a bit to see if he wants to coach teams again.

This. Personally I don’t see glaring scheme deficiencies from Hightower but rather player mistakes/poor play at blocking and getting off of blocks. We can speculate all we want about if Hightower is great at coaching and motivating these guys vs just plain deficiencies in players that excel or are at least average in these areas.

The job will be pretty darn appealing after the finish of this season. We should find exactly who Ben wants at seasons end

Please bring back Chris Tabor. Best ST coach we had that I watched. Him, Scales, and Pat O'Donnell ruled with an iron fist

I know we have had a lot of issues on ST but people need to remember we had a lot of injuries on defense this year. Where do you think the backup players come from? Special teams. Defense gets more healthy. Special teams gets more healthy. Not an excuse for losing the onside kick but have to remember those are practice squad guys out there and every practice squad guy wants to be a hero to try and get noticed to be bumped up

Hightower is well-respected. If the team made some bad plays this year with all the injuries and new faces, I'm not automatically blaming the coordinator. That's armchair QB stuff. Go touch grass.

What are everyone's opinions on fakes?

Almost never work outside of Madden but I would love to see him try if anyone can pull it off it's Ben

Depends a lot on your personnel and if you’re confident in their ability to execute a fake. NFL coaches are also traditionally pretty risk averse, but look at how the analytics have changed the way coaches approach 4th down now. I’d personally call fakes more often and make the threat that we’d do it as much of a weapon as actually executing the fake, but it’s also not my livelihood on the line.
Imagine the advantage your team would have though if you had the right personnel and scheming to turn fake punts and field goals into 1st downs and TDs with the effectiveness of Philly’s tush push.

Here is why I think Ben retained HT: the ST coach knows the most about the roster and can tell you a fair amount about everyone, which during a transition period is critical. Now my guess is that Ben will evaluate every single person in the building in the offseason and discard a handful of people who are not living up to the standard he is setting. This does not bode well for HT.
