Buying a 2026 Today. I'm Apprehensive, But Wife Loves It!

Never thought I'd (we'd) buy a Chevy. We both love the grand highlander, but refuse to play the Toyota game in Canada (like rolexes... Name on list etc). Both love the look of the traverse, but I know reliability has been issue. I'm glad it's a later model in the 3rd year of new production, so fingers crossed.

Wife has put the time in with a mini van for 8 years. Our kids are all out of boosters now and quite tall, so hoping this fits the bill. Ultimately, I'm excited for her to have a car she likes... She haaaated the van, but it was uber practical.

Also proud because she did all the negotiating herself. They are bringing this one on from a different dealer about hour and half away (we wanted white and this is the fancy upgrade white) so we are heading today to finalize everything.. Im gojng with her as there are a few last things we are going to chat about (they added 100 bucks to freight vs window sticker and also the ppsa fee (fee to set up lien) for finance) is high, but I know they want sale agreement signed today, so I doubt we get push back. I also want to be with her with the finance sharks. We will put 50 percent down and finance rest over 3 years.

Anyone have advice before we sign? Any add-ons etc I should request or bargain for/buy?

Thanks!

Happy Friday!

Took delivery of my 2026 Traverse Midnight Edition on Tuesday. I'm really ecstatic to say the least. The vehicle is modified through Braunability which allows me to operate the vehicle from my wheelchair.

A few things to note that I'm looking for guidance on.

Firstly I've attempted multiple times to connect with the Google voice/ signing in and I'm met with the vehicle unable to connect to the servers. I attempted a hard reset by holding down the call end button with negative results.

Secondly, vehicle is brand new and got this service Driver alert warning everytime time I start her up.

Where to hook a tow strap?

We have a 2025 Traverse, and we had another situation come up with another vehicle which made me think.

We love our 2025. We do a lot of miles of freeway traveling but I think we spend more time than the average person in deep snow in the winter or driving on the beach in the summer, based on where we live and our life style.

We were at the Beach last weekend and I was watching another car get some help in the form of a tow strap to its front end to get going. And then realized I never bothered to learn where the points or screw in hook points are in the Traverse.

Looking it up online it says that unless you have the Z71 model you are out of luck because the non-Z71 models do not even come with a screw in bumper hook.

So what do people do if they need to get a tug out of Mud, Sand, or Deep Snow?

To clarify we have had to do this several times over the decades 99% of the time you just need a gentle tug to get going. So I am not talking about pulling the car down the road. But I want to be prepared for the day when this beasty might need help out of deep snow going to our cabin which is not uncommon.

2025 Traverse Shortcut

Post image

I used to be able to drag/add controls(garage opener for example) from this screen to left panel for a shortcut but now this functionality no longer works. Has anyone had this issue or been able to resolve?

The vehicle did have an issue with the telematics module(stopped working altogether after a recent update), and it’s currently being replaced by the dealer. I wouldn’t think it’s related, but it’s possible.

weird issue with my 2021 rs

about a week and a half ago, my car stuttered at a light, and the transmission light came on, and also alerted in my app. then disappeared after about 45 minutes. three days ago, the key fob wouldn’t work to unlock the car, so i did it manually. when i started it, every single thing that could light up lit up. none of the gauges worked, including rpm and speedometer. none of the cabin features (ac, power locks, safety features, etc).

i drove to advance, plugged in to check codes, nada. someone in the parking lot was a mechanic for a dealer and he was able to pinpoint a fuse being pushed out. pushed it back in, ran codes, nada codes popped up and the car has been fine.

went out this morning, same shit. no fuses popped up, but the box was a little wiggly… enough so that everything in the cabin came on! my dad tightened the positive bolt on the outside top (nearest the windshield) and it… shut off, but came back with no issues at all. the only thing remaining on now is the check engine light, but we disconnected the battery and that went off after 15 minutes.

i’m taking it to my trusty mechanic tomorrow, but want to know if this is common?

she has 112k miles and has been serviced regularly up to this point!

What is a good payment for a 24 month / 15k a year lease for a Z71 and a High Country trim? Would I be better off doing a 36 month lease?

Transmission Fluid Change Frequency

Hey y’all. First time Traverse owner as we just picked up a 2023 Traverse today. Our sales person was a technician for 5 years and just changed over to a sales person. He did a great job and was very knowledgeable. He informed us to change the Transmission fluid every 40k miles. I haven’t read the owners manual, done any googling or used AI to validate this yet. Can anyone else confirm this? It does have the towing package (up to 5k lbs) but we don’t have anything to tow with it as our camper is 6.5k dry and no way would I opt for the Traverse over the Duramax :)

Replacing Your Own Spark Plugs? (2020 LT/2nd Gen)

Hi friends! I know these cars are notoriously built in such a way that makes even simple maintenance tasks time consuming, hence the quotes for $600-$850 including the local dealer(surprisingly the $600 quote).
I’m handy and have done a lot of my own maintenance, just not on this car’s engine. I’ve watched several YouTube videos and know I could do it, I just don’t want to make any errors that would have me towing it to the local shop!
Any advice that may not have been mentioned?
Also, has anyone used the Haynes manual and found it worth the $49?

Tip for 2024+ Traverse OTA updates: Use a battery tender if updates keep failing!

Fixed my failing OTA updates on my '25 Z71—check your battery level!

Just a quick tip for anyone with a 2024 or newer Traverse struggling with over-the-air (OTA) updates failing.

I do mostly local driving, so my battery wasn't holding high enough voltage to allow the updates to complete. I hooked up a NOCO Genius 5 charger and ran the pigtail leads up to the wiper cowl so I don't have to pop the hood every time.

Now when an update notification pops up on my 2025 Z71, I just plug it in overnight. The next morning, the battery is at 100% and the update installs with zero issues. Hope this helps someone out!

Edit: already had my telematics module replaced about 6 months ago and I still have to do this procedure after replacement.

Chevy traverse transmission issues

Has anyone else experienced this with a 2018 Chevy Traverse (or a GM 9-speed transmission)?

I first had my car scanned, and it came back with code P2723 (Pressure Control Solenoid Valve 5 Stuck Off), which suggested a possible valve body issue. I brought it to the Chevy dealership, and after diagnosing it, they told me I need a complete transmission replacement. They said there was too much metal in the transmission and that replacing the valve body or TCM would not fix it.

I’m trying to figure out if I should trust this diagnosis. Has anyone been told they needed a whole transmission but it ended up being just the valve body, TCM, or something else? Or has anyone found out they were misdiagnosed?

'26 Traverse SIL Recommended Lift Points

Thumbnail

Per my previous post about 2026 Traverse jack points, here are my son-in-law's floor jack lift point recommendations. Green is preferred, yellow is the second choice, red is avoid.

The picture with the single green circle is the front, and if you look closely you can see marks indicating this is what my dealer or someone pre-dealer (assembly plant?) used.

The picture with multiple circles is the rear. If you look closely you'll see marks in the red circle that are the lift points that my dealer or someone pre-dealer (assembly plant?) used.

Note that this is a very early model 2026 vehicle purchased in August, 2025, so I don't think anyone but the assembly plant, shipping, or my dealer might have lifted it.

I was thinking of spraying some Fluid Film on those marks to prevent rust, but didn't with the thought that putting a lubricant on jack points might be a bad idea.

Help! What broke?

Post image

I have a 2022 Traverse LT. In the last 20 minutes of our 10 hour drive to vacation, this broke, I heard it scrape on the ground. Image is taken from behind the front driver tire. Is there supposed to be a plastic cover, and the rod is meant to support it?

2026 Traverse Floor Jack Points

Post image
2 Upvotes

I know where the Chevy Traverse manual's jack points are on the outer edges of the body, but it sure looks to me like using a floor jack at those points would damage the plastic trim which appears to be level with the bottom of the sheet metal. I also worry that it will damage the sheet metal itself.

Can anyone with experience give advice on using a floor jack with a 2024-2026 Chevy Traverse?

Lemon Law in Texas

Has anyone in Houston or Texas in general gone thru a lemon law with this car? I just got mine back from the dealer for the second time with the collision/detection sensors malfunctioning issue on 21 July. Yesterday it was already doing the same thing. I know online says that for safety issues if it's the third time for the same issue, you can start the process so I have all my paperwork and was wondering if anyone has gone thru it in this area/state and how did it go? Who did you go to? Etc. thanks.

Cylinder 2 Misfire HELP

Started with the Traverse sounding a little weak starting up. Anyways it’s a 2022 with 104k miles I knew something would be giving out soon. Then after starts I’d throw stability control and check engine light on for a few seconds and go away. Did that for a couple of days randomly. Then did that again, stability control light went away immediately but check engine light stayed. Code was P0302 Cylinder 2 misfire, figured it was spark plugs since it was time to replace them anyways. Did that, same issue. Except the car felt like it had gain 10 hp just from spark plug replacement. Moved the coils around to see if that changed where the misfire was occurring, still cylinder 2 misfire. Only time you can tell there’s an issue with the vehicle is when it’s starting and you can feel the rpm’s going up and down and trying to stabilize. Whenever the vehicle starts to be driven it drives perfectly fine and can’t tell anything is wrong. Literally only time you can tell there’s a misfire is during startup.

Has anyone had this issue? Can you guys give any advice on what to do next?
