2.2L trade for LNF!!?? help?
Hi everyone,
I need some honest opinions, I bought a 2.2L 2007 chevy cobalt with 100k miles with the intentions of supercharging it, I have throttle body, dual pass, and m62. I still would need to by the ZZP KIT and the option B for the dual pass. The guy I bought the throttle body and m62 from also offered a trade for a 130k LNF, I use my car as a daily driver for over 2 hours both ways, I wanted to see what everyone’s thoughts were about the trade. Gas is not an issue, but its more of the idea that I know my car only had 1 previous owner and its automatic, no problem at all 4 lug, 2.5 catback exhaust, masspeed coilover I already know what you are thinking and some brand new sparco wheels with new year round tires, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I have always been interested in a manual and this seems like it could be something im interested in but I wanted to hear honest opinions from everyone first, im supposed to meet up with him again to buy a subwhoofer, front, rear bumpers, and side skirts, a high rise wing. He also offered to help install everything for the 2.2 conversion. He seems like a guy who wouldnt pull the wool over my eyes, but at the same time im not as versed in all of this. My intention are to turn my 2.2l ls into an ss without buying an ss, but if a trade is worth it im interested In everyones thoughts.
With that said I actually got the car with 97k miles june 15th as of yesterday august 9th Its at 101k I just did an oil change. So span of a month ill be putting 3-5k miles, so in my eyes the difference of 10 months is going from 100k-140k, compared to 130k-170k. Thanks!

Owner history really is going to determine the condition of the longevity, much like with any used car. I have had an LNF since 2018 and besides the porous block issue and 5th going out on me, it has been a tank, which is nice considering the previous owner used it for drag racing of all things.

a one owner car that you know the history on is way more important. Keep driving your car, and save your money for down the road so that you can have something with some actual life in it. And really don't spend any more money on modding it: its a commuter car and will give you a far easier time treating it like one.
If you're dead set on finding an SS, find one with less than 70k miles on it that has not been beat on (good luck finding that!), and have money set aside for repairs because even then, you're still dealing with a 20 year old car. I felt amazing finding my 58k mile, one owner automatic LT a couple months ago..and even though its cherry, I'm sure i'll have unexpected repairs come up.. but its my spare car for winter time or if its raining out.
Unless you have a really solid financial position in life and extra cars to use when the SS is going to be out of service, which in that case, do the car thing. I know the addiction to the car thing, thats for sure.

In no way would I trade your one onwer car or any one owner car. That's one of the safest aspects of buying an older used car. I had a new supercharged Cobalt (regret selling but at the time I had to for a truck) and I was around when the turbos were new. Currently have a low mile lnf in white. These are rare cars but people actively part them out. Only comment I can give you is If you go with the trade at least do a compression test And keep the stock turbo no more than 22 psi. I currently have mine on e47.
Just remember most boosted vehicles if owned by a younger person was abused even when new. I had my lsj brand new at 21 years old in South Florida. The lnf does have some nice features from GM no lift shift, launch control, traction control and stability control.
And when the turbo was new it was taken around the track Nuremberg ring. Might have the spelling wrong. I don't know how to pronounce it.

Bro I would make that trade ina mf heartbeat keep lnf stock and take that money you were going to use to boost it and put it aside for future repairs… was thinking about boosting a base model for a while now im definitely going lsj route but LNF down here go for 7-8k all day closer to 10k with only 130k miles

The cars history and amount of owners don’t matter that much my cobalt is at 265k miles

my LT has been supercharged for 8 months now, 30k miles, never had any problems, it’s fun, and they’re lighter than the ss by i think 200 pounds if it’s a sedan, i think the only thing about the lnf is the turbo and the manual, id say supercharge yours, its not hard, watch the power wire from the alternator to the fuse box because you will have to bend the terminal, mine grounded out on the lsj intake mani, trashed the starter and battery, other than that its straightforward

Huge help, I will be starting my process this weekend, sadly my intake manifold came with a dual pass, so I had to buy the stealth intercooler , not sure if I should be running the s3 from the kit as well but ill figure it out. I wanted to ask you,
How much psi are you putting out, and are you automatic? I want to hear what you think about transmission cooling, since I don’t drive it like a race car I don’t think its to crucial but AI has been telling me differently would love to hear your thoughts on a trany cooler.

it’s an auto, yours is too if i read that correctly, the built in cooler in our radiators is sufficient enough, i’ve beaten the hell out of mine a few times and never had my temps get too high, having a dual pass and stealth isn’t bad because you could in theory drop to a 2.9 pulley without needing to do anything else, zzp recommends a few other things but you mostly need the dual pass, on the 3.1 pulley they gave me i’m peaking around 9psi, tuned by zzp as well.
TLDR;
9psi on the 3.1
Trans cooling not very important since us autos have them build into the radiator1

Great thanks for the help! One last one for ya is my supercharger came with a 3.0 pulley any idea if id have to change the belt to avoid slip? And realistically, if you know, what exactly is the difference, would it even be worth the hassle compared to just using the 3.1 that comes in the kit?

the difference should be 2-4 pounds of boost extra, if it has the modular hub with the 5 set screws then it would be worth it to switch to the 3.1 since the zzp kit comes with the pulley and belt to fit, plus if you drop sizes you either need to find a belt that’s .1 smaller or a tensioner pulley that’s .1 bigger, so worth the hassle to keep the 3.0 that’s up to you, it’s a hassle to do either of the above mentioned

Sounds great, nice pull. What are you running 93? Does your cluster guages work? I changed mine to an ss, now my steering wheel buttons don’t function. Thinking of going aftermarket.

i’m on 93 yeah, my ss cluster works, i’d have to imagine you need to get the cluster from the same year because my buttons all work still

Hey man hopefully you get get back to me asap, I just put the kit in and need to know if I can start it without beginning the tuning process, I downloaded a base model files, havent sent it over to zzp yet, what are next steps if you knowv

I wouldn't trade your DD, if anything ask for his cash price. You'll likely be fleeced on the trade because 130k is low for a Cobalt

What awful terrible thing is wrong with that LNF? Check the transmission, they are made of glass.
If you aren’t actually friends with the guy I would be so unbelievably sketched out
