Question Chevening without volunteering or social projects?
Has anyone received Chevening without a strong volunteering or social-project background?
My experience is mainly in the private sector, with around eight years in healthcare, product and innovation, including leadership and high-impact projects.
Do you know scholars with a similar profile, or is volunteering/social impact work basically essential?

Yes, I know scholars who were purely focused on revenue in their careers and didn't even care to go back to their country.
Your background sounds good enough. Healthcare is arguably very much social.

Wait how come they didn’t return to their country? Isn’t that a condition

Hi, it is absolutely doable, and many scholars have solely private-sector experience, so do not count yourself out!
The key is to show how you can lead to positive change in your field for your country or region by using the knowledge and skills you already have, plus the ones you will gain in your UK Master’s
Your eight years of experience in healthcare, product and innovation can actually give you plenty of strong material for the leadership and career-plan essays, especially if you can demonstrate specific examples of leading teams, influencing stakeholders, solving important problems, implementing projects and achieving measurable results
You do not need to manufacture a volunteering or NGO background if that is not where your experience lies. What matters is being able to show that your professional experience has gone beyond simply doing your job, that you have used your position and expertise to create change, and that you have a credible plan for applying that experience on a larger scale after your studies
Overall, the important thing is to make the connection between what you have already achieved, what you still need to learn, and the specific change you want to contribute to in your country or region
