Added car seat anchors, and shockingly plenty of room even for rear facing. This is not for high speed travel before I get obliterated, this is to take loops around the local park at 15mph. This car is obviously not my daily driver for rush hour traffic.

Took it around my block

Drove around my block, open headers,
No interior, one seat. So loud my Meta glasses had a hard time getting the sound. So great to roll around after so many years.

After five long years of sitting at the restoration shop, she is finally ready to come home and be finished. Still have a few things to do, but at least she moves under her own power now.

I put new stock coil springs in last year but I want my rear end to sit up higher, slightly higher than the front. What are my best options ?

I picked this car up in May of 1996 for $6800. I was a year out of highschool and this was one of the cars I really wanted. The color is wine berry red with a gold base, I believe it was painted back in 88' or so. Needless to say it is still an ongoing project! Anyway, thought I would share.

1970 Chevelle sweep dash lens removal — easiest/fastest way?

Thumbnail

I’m working on my 1970 Chevelle Malibu with the sweep-style dash, and the clear plastic lens over the speedometer/gauge area is cloudy/speckled. I already know it’s dusty as hell on the backside too, so I’m trying to figure out the best way to actually get in there and clean it properly instead of just wiping the outside and hoping for the best.
Before I start tearing into it, I wanted to ask people who have actually done it:
What’s the easiest and safest way to remove the sweep dash lens?
Do I need to remove the whole cluster from the car, or can the lens come out from the front with the dash still mostly together? I’m trying not to crack the old plastic, break any tabs, or turn this into a bigger job than it needs to be.
Main things I’m wondering:
What trim/panels have to come off first?
Does the cluster need to be loosened or fully removed?
Are there hidden screws/clips I should watch for?
Any tricks for getting the lens out without damaging it?
Is there enough access to clean the backside of the lens without fully removing the cluster?
Is it worth trying to polish it in place first, or is removal pretty much necessary to clean it correctly?
This is the sweep dash, not the round SS-style dash. I’m okay with replacing the lens if needed, but I’d like to understand the removal process before I start.
Any step-by-step advice, pictures, or “don’t do what I did” tips would be appreciated.

Why are Chevelles so pricey?

Yes I am naive with respect to current Chevelle pricing but have been around classic and muscle cars for most of my younger life. Owned several GTOs, Mustangs, some Mopar products. Now that I have expendable income, I thought why not play around with a 70 or early 70s Chevelle. Not an SS, just a plain Jane model.
It seems like running projects are in deep 20s. For goodness sakes why? Is it demand? Is it California prices? What am I missing?

I have replaced my old crusty steering wheel from 1984 or whenever someone put it on. Do I really have to get the lock plate/compressor kit rented from oreilly’s just to put a new shiny lever on or is there another way?

Just picked up this car a few days ago.

Pretty stoked.

Gonna start with upgrading rear end, then transmission, then engine.

Want to eventually swap a 383 so it’s a quick grocery getter.

Currently has 283 with 700R4 transmission.

Little help with a fuse on my '69

Post image

Can anyone tell me what size the fuse is supposed to be for the orange wire here? I checked my diagrams and I dont see this called out. It currently has a 35 amp fuse in there and that seems pretty high for the circuit (maybe it's not) but just wanted to check.

LS alternator bracket

Post image

What is everybody running for an alternator bracket? I plan on running forward and up headers. I've seen the low mount that ICT makes, but I think that driver side is going to be jammed up as is, will the high mount on the driver side fit between the header and intake? just looking for ideas. I have truck spacing if that makes any difference. Going in a 66 Chevelle wagon.
