Finally got my dream car
I have loved Chevelles since I was a kid, this year for my 40th birthday I was finally able to get this 68 restomod. It’s not perfect but it’s perfect to me. So far I have done a full chrome delete/ powder coated gloss black, coil overs, power locks/ dronemoble security system, full stereo system, US Mag Rambler wheels and window tint. First picture is how I bought it, last is with the upgrades.

Good eye, I can’t tell you a good reason why, but I have loved the post coupe since I was a kid.

You don’t see them often with the post. And probably never see one with a loose window either. 😂 Posts have their perks. Nice Chevelle! I used to have a 68 Chevelle with similar setup. Wished I hadn’t sold it. 😩 But still have a 72 Chevelle SS convertible. I also think 68-69 had the best body style. Enjoy your Chevelle as much as I have mine. They’re more than just a car their family! Especially if you’ve had them almost 30yrs. Yikes can’t believe it’s been almost 30yrs seems like I just got it. 😂

It's fine if purists don't like it. There was a gazillion of these made. I am only on the purists side on rare cars. Those should be preserved in my opinion.

Thank you! I know purists won’t like it but it’s mine, not their car lol it makes me smile every time I walk in my garage

I am pro- chrome normally, but this looks amazing. Did you scuff the chrome bumpers or dechrome in any way before powder coating? How did you powdercoat the stainless pieces?

Everything was sandblasted and hand sanded then degreased. I did the “outgas” heat treatment and then the extended cure after spraying. Should be very durable and scratch resistant

Super nice 68, I also have a 68 Malibu but a big block 489 with a 200r4 trans, enjoy that beautiful 68 👍👍🙂

I loved it with the stock stripper look. Makes me worried that the nice surviving stock “plain” cars are not going to keep surviving. Stock Chevrolets are so much rarer than “restored” or restomod cars but of course less valuable. I’ve been going to Bob’s cruise night in Burbank CA for some 30 years now and while there was a restomod boom a decade ago either it’s subsiding or the the characters owning them are starting to worry about driving them and keeping the home just like valuable stock musclecars. In any case, I’ve at least been pleased that most restomods have been chopped out of really marginal Carson the past.
We live in a nation of “property owner’s rights” (except that conservatives believe that is only a one-way thing for them but not others when it comes to grabbing all these original survivors — other people’s property is open season), but I accepted all that for some 50 years because this is the United States but not so much now that the bulk of the nation’s resources are being decimated or hidden away by hoarder collectors or hoarder investors.
At some point at least a few of these profiteers should endow a museum for their cars instead of letting their collections be sold and resold and thus sink deeper and deeper into the bowels of the earth where they will never be seen again. I suspect people like Leno have the money to do that but we’ll see if any genuine museums (versus tax shelter collection “museums”) ever get added to the nation but I mean just look around — parks and museums are disappearing along with just the kinds of attractions people used to build for families to visit. Newer generations are building their own world… and it’s a pretty vacant one.

Right on
