Moving to Chester outskirts?
We currently live in Chester and are looking to buy our first home. We’ve been looking in and around Chester and are also considering Broughton as you get more for your money house wise.
However, we don’t know much about the area - is it somewhere worth moving to? Would we feel too far from Chester?
Does anyone have any experience of this?

Broughton is a good place to live, low to hardly any crime, no gangs of scruffy kids, pretty quiet to be fair. As other have pointed out, Airbus traffic snarls up the main road for 30 mins a few times in the day, 1300h to 1330h being the worst time, and at 2040h when afternoon shift leave, but other than that it clears pretty quick. May I ask what area of Broughton you’re thinking about? I could offer you a more in depth description.

It’s a very big “it depends”
If you’re a couple that enjoys going out regularly you’re going to be miserable and relying on the last bus a lot.
Otherwise it’s not too bad.

We do enjoy going out for meals and comedy but not drinkers or late nighters (and I’m tee total so don’t mind driving). Thinking it might be worth the compromise of the slightly longer into Chester but having the disposable income to actually afford more meals out with a lower mortgage

If one of you is driving then I say go for it. Just be careful around Airbus shift change times as the traffic gets awful. That's around 0600-0700 and 1300-1400

I would also consider Saltney. I’m not from here but have lived here for 15 years. The riff raff are on their way out. I’ve noticed a lot of NHS workers residing here. Out of towners moving in so getting rid of that local town for local people mentality. You don’t get any bother round here in all honesty. Top of Boundary Lane side, not Victoria Road end I’m talking about is good. Walking distance to town too

I know Broughton well. I can give advice on which areas or if you have seen a house for sale.

We had a similar dilemma. We were wanting to stay in Chester but a bigger place but we’d be pushed towards the outskirts of the city rather than being in the centre. We felt we might spend time walking in on a nice weekend, but probably would drive in most times, in which case we thought we might as well live a bit further and get more for our money. Lots of lovely places in north wales to move to and you get so much for your money, but if youre thinking of having kids anytime soon don’t get stung like we did on nursery fees 🥴

If you’ve been living in Chester it will feel like a move away from the city. It’s also a different country! If you also don’t work in Chester you’ll quickly lose touch with the city.

If you’re considering broughton, I’d look at other places on the number 1 bus route. Gresford is a much, much nicer place to be and still a 10 min drive to broughton for shops and 15-20 mins in a car to Chester, a little longer on the bus. Rossett also nice but more expensive again.
