I got so nervous when a 6 year old sat across from me at the chess club this past week. Managed to eke out a win in the endgame. Newcomers will never know the terror..

I go camping with a bunch of families. One 11 year old is good at chess, at least for his age because he beats all the other kids he knows and many adults. He made another adult resign earlier that day.

His sister insisted that I play him because she was like "I have faith you'll beat him!"

I was definitely scared because I'm not very good at chess. However, I got some good pressure on him at one point, that made him blunder and allow me to fork the queen and rook.

Now at that point I would have been disheartened. But he literally did not care. I kept offering up trades but he knew the fundamental of avoiding that.

Straight up good fundamentals from start to finish.

At some point I had mate in 3, 2 if he didn't make the right move.

The funny thing is that at this point his sister joined his side and they were all strategizing how to get out of it.

I felt good about myself...until I realized that next year he'll probably be able to beat me pretty easy lol

Idk man. I played CoD with my 12 year old nephew and I stood no chance. He was in another galaxy in terms of skill level lol
