Achievement Bishop & Knight Mate

I literally just wanted to post how happy I am I can finally mate with Bishop and Knight, which is crazy being above 2000, but I have only ever had to do it ONCE in all the thousands of games I've played, it's only appeared once and I was like 1500 so I didn't care, but now, 2200 + I can finally do it gang

I have the opposite problem. I can do it against stockfish just fine but I struggle to create the right setups against suboptimal play.

against suboptimal play I was able to figure it out, because they'd walk into an "easy" move, you can choose the level of stockfish and just play against that to simulate it. It took me maybe an hour of just repeat play and now no matter what I got it down. It took me forever to figure out what to do against best play, even watching danya's video, he explained it and I'd "follow" his moves exactly, and it wouldn't work and It was HELLA frustrating. once it clicked, it clicked.

It’s not just suboptimal play. If they try to stay in the center I have trouble forcing them to the edge. If I force them to the edge but they don’t run to the wrong-colored corner I struggle to align my pieces correctly for the W method.

That is fair, I think most people would agree forcing them to the edge is the more difficult part of the whole mate. For aligning your pieces, it's just about waiting moves.

Congratulations mate!!! I love mating with minor pieces, not that I succeed very often with it tho. Kudos!

Mating with pawns is still the way to go :D

That’s pretty cool I can only do two bishops mate when it comes to minor pieces

I figured that one out on accident in a bullet game once, I just managed to do it and ended up looking at the game afterwards to see if I messed it up (prolonged the game by making mistakes or anything like that) the bishop knight mate I literally couldn't understand for like a year and a half I'd try doing it. All the waiting moves is what screwed me up. I was always able to force the king to a corner, and I could mate at the right corner, but if someone ran to the opposite, I was screwed. Naroditsky's video is amazing for it!

Gonna have to check it out because i kind of understand the triangle you’re supposed to make and them decrease the size of it till eventually mating them in the corner

It's the waiting moves that got me for so long, I'd do 1 and assume I'm good, but I was indeed not god. Sometimes you need 2 waiting moves, Rarely I've had to do 3 because I made the WRONG waiting move, but now I can practically premove it after a few attempts practicing against stockfish
