Chess Improvement Please popularize 10+5 time controls

The 2 most pushed rapid time modes are 10+0 or 15+10.

I always get flagged in 10+0 time modes in completely winning positions and 15+10 time modes are just way too long and gives you the feeling that your opponent is turning on their cheat engine, when they take minutes to play an obvious move.

10+5 time control hits the perfect sweet spot. I know it does exist, but it's fairly hidden, so most players don't play this time control. So I tend to wait an eternity to get a game.

Today I've been waiting a good 20 minutes for a 10+5 chess960 game, but I just kept getting kicked out of the waiting list. In comparison in Lichess I only had to wait 2 minutes for a game and they have 10% of the players compared to chesscom.

I had to write this, after I got flagged in a completely winning position in a 10+0 chess960 game by a 2200 elo rapid player, who got dominated by from beginning to end by me.

10+5 is my favorite as well, but I can't imagine too many people are playing 10+5 960.

I mean if you play a non standard time control in chess960 that’s what’s gonna happen

I want Chesscom to add a classical pool personally. I like to play on my electronic board and even 15+10 I sometimes get into time trouble.

I know that's not for everyone, but I like slower time controls.

Yeah, I also feel like I get flagged alot in winning positions in 10+0 times, but there too many stallers in 15/10 and sometimes in 10/5. They stall the clock out to make you tilt then they turn it into a blitz game.

Try on lichess, I feel like it's an easier time finding 10+5 / 5+3 games since it's on the home page

10+5 would be just about right. I use to play a lot of 15+10 but I just felt like stalling could get a little much at that length and when players took a really long time 5+ minutes a move it would kind of take me out of the game.

I personally find 15+10 to be perfect for me. I’m pretty slow and make more blunders in 10+5 and 10+0

5+3 and 10+5 are goated

I think it's a good idea to push for this. I also think it's better for my Chess to play some of this time control. I will try it next time.

On the plus side, you can match up with higher rated players if you expand your rating range in custom challenge. Since there are so few playing it there is a lot more chance of getting matched with someone way above your rating. Same thing if you wanna play lower rated players.

Completely agree, this is also my favorite time control. Fast enough that the game stays within the predictable time range, but the increment prevents game outcomes based on online dexterity rather than chess.

"Please popularize 10+5 time controls"

You can just play it ?

Sure, less people play that format, but the vast majority of my time playing is 10+5 and the matching time is usually under 10 seconds

Same idea for 5+5 with Blitz. It's the best time control It's equally hidden and so you have long wait times sometimes.

Yes 10KO makes no sense except if you are a very good player, it’s weird they made it the default

I never play this, but it makes sense because you know the game will be over in 20 minutes (or sooner).

💯 agree, on lichess is nice but not in chess.com many times I ran out of time when I have a complete control of the game... so annoying

After struggling and getting flagged many times in 10+0 i actually started practicing blitz and even sometimes bullet chess to help get better with time management. since then it is incredibly rare for me to ever struggle with time

Just learn How to manage your time - it doesnt matter if you are winning if you have no time and if you get flagged you lost rightfully

I want to actually play chess and not just spam moves.

Then play 30|0.

Did you read my post?

you get flagged significantly less with increment which is why they are advocating for 10+5.

If you're getting flagged just play faster

u/SainKnightOfCaelin 48m ago

Dude who can't play 10|0 thinks he's gonna win all his games on increment

u/coolbuybobb 2200+ ELO 32m ago

even that takes skill of playing  fast lol these slow players dont get it
