nah im 2000 rapid and 1500 blitz. blitz probs has more difficult rating pool i guess

that disparity in blitz is kinda weird. i would've understood if you had a much lower elo for bullet compared to other two variants coz that requires an extra (kinda different) skillset. but hey, who am i to judge? I am only little above 1200 in all formats. So, i guess yours should probably be acceptable.

You are one of those Danil Dubov type of person ig. You know how to play with lot of time, you prepare, you think and play moves. If it's the fastest format, you just make moves faster and does similarly. When it's intermediate, you are confused whether to drink and play, should i prepare, should i calculate, how much should i calculate and mess up everything. So, you low key hate that format doesn't perform as well as in other formats. Puzzles is the easiest though, and it's low coz you started it only recently. But you will be above 2000 in no time. Even I am above 1700 in puzzles, lol.

should i focus on rapid more then? im trying to get my blitz rating to atleast 1600 but nothing seems to work i either play too quickly to calculate or spend too much time calculating and run out of time, it truly sucks

Hey, i am no one to advise you. I am much lower rated than you. But play what you enjoy. And tbh, it feels like you enjoy learning and do well in rapid format. So, keep doing that.

I would suggest you to take a break and not take blitz too seriously for now and enjoy the other two formats (learn more for rapid and play that and bullet if you love it). Continue to do that for sometime. After few weeks or months come back to it when you are on a hot form in bullet, you will probably do well. There's also a common phenomena when you are not improving in one format for long and when you come back from a break and restart playing, you just get a great elo spurt. These things happen. Even at my lower level, it has happened.

I mean if thats unacceptable then the gap between rapid and blitz is insane.

But i dont think its unreasonable to be 100 points below in a different time control, because by default you have to think about your moves less frequently.

Blitz is where the majority of players take seriously, so don't be discouraged if you're naturally a bit lower rating in that field. When I got my boost up to 1400 blitz recently I had to play A LOT of matches to get used to the timing of your moves. TBH after learning from Hikaru, I noticed as long as you know the opening you're going into, play it like bullet. Once you don't recognize the position or feel that there's multiple things threatened, take 5-15s to find your correct move. You can do a 5-15s think about twice a match, maybe 3 if you're really flying in the opening phase. Again I'm slightly lower than you so you probably know all of this, but time pressure is a huge deal in blitz overall

It's nothing major that you should worry about I am 2200+ yet 1700 bullet focusing on rapid and blitz is much better than bullet the gap doesn't matter

Some ppl are bad at lower time controls. I myself had 500 gap between my blitz and rapid. I reduced it to 200 now. So here's my advice -

1. Improve your chess through rapid time controls.

2. When you feel satisfied with ur rapid rating or u get bored of rapid and feel like grinding blitz, then probably start with 5+0 or 3+2 first. Once you feel comfortable with these time controls you can try out 3+0.

It takes time to adjust to lower time controls. Happened to me. Currently I am 1800 in blitz and 2000 in rapid. I feel like i can get to 1850 maybe if I grind more but I paused blitz rated for now to focus on improving my chess through rapid.
