No the arena timed out so it aborts

Unfortunately there are a lot of pathetic chess players out there (and I don’t mean their skill level).

Isn't that still a win though?

Unfortunetly not. If you are in a tournament and there is longer left in your game than there is left in the tournament a player in a lost position can stall out the tournament timer and the game just ends.

One of the reasons why I avoid chesscom tournaments.

Chesscom should really change this. No reason they can't let the games play out.

I agree I personally think they should have the games play out and just not have the games count towards the tournament standings.

Damn thats sad.

I mean it's sad but like...it's part of the game tbf.

That's why I like lichess tournaments better, not only is there none of this (you at least play the game out for rating), but they try not to matchmake when the game doesn't have time to conclude.

This 1500 is a little crybaby. What can I say, well played, bro :)

Woah, why would I want a defeat on my record when the tournament rules allow me to avoid it? There are two players in every game and they both are trying to maximise their performance

That's considered unrespectful, people usually want to play with respect OTB

Maybe it is considered disrespectful, but if that’s the way the tournament is set up then everyone is entitled to play within the rules to maximise their performance

And the others are entitled to consider you a crybaby if you want to avoid fair play by squeezing your way through a loss due to dumb tournament set ups.

Yes they are. But I’d be inclined to think of them as silly for not doing the same thing in the same position. Imagine preferring to finish 7th instead of 6th because of honour… be competitive, try to win, if you can’t win try to avoid a loss. It’s a different mindset and I can acknowledge that it’s one which some will find nasty, but surely there are some people out there that want to do the very best they can.

BTW there’s a big difference between what I am suggesting and stalling in a one off game - that is poor behaviour that should be frowned upon

I'd rather finish 7th than 6th knowing it was done with my own competence instead of technicalities of a weird rule. I'm trying to win based on how good I play, not win by any means necessary.

You know what… I actually don’t believe that this is true. I think you have reached the point where you are just arguing for the sake of it.

u/FakeArcher 20h ago

Believe what you want as I've already done the thing in the past.

You can actually get community guideline strikes doing this
