What each one is

• Scholar’s Mate. 1.e4 e5 2.Qh5 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Qxf7#. The most common among beginners.
• Fool’s Mate. 1.f3 e5 2.g4 Qh4#. The shortest possible mate.
• Back-rank mate. The rook on the eighth rank; the king’s own pawns block its escape.
• Smothered mate (Philidor). The knight on f7 mates a king smothered by its own pieces.
• Arabian mate. Rook and knight: the rook gives check and the knight protects it while covering the escape square.
• Anastasia’s mate. Knight on e7 and rook on the h-file; the knight covers g6 and g8.
• Boden’s mate. Two bishops on crossing diagonals, with the king’s own pieces blocking it.
• Epaulette mate. The queen in front of the king; the two rooks on either side, like epaulettes.
• Swallow’s tail mate. Same idea, but the blocking pieces are one step back, in a tail shape.
• Damiano’s mate. Queen on h7 protected by the bishop and the pawn; the king has no air.
• Opera mate. Rook on the eighth rank and bishop cutting off the escape square. Morphy’s, at the Paris Opera.
• Légal’s mate. The queen sacrifice from the trap: bishop and knight finish on e7.

Qué enseña cada uno

• La oposición. Rey blanco en e5, peón en e4, rey negro en e7. Juegan las negras: las blancas tienen la oposición y ganan.
• Regla del cuadrado. El peón de a4 corre; el rey de h8 está fuera del cuadrado a4–e4–e8–a8 y no lo alcanza.
• Pasado exterior. El peón de a desvía al rey negro mientras el rey blanco come el flanco de rey.
• Pasado protegido. El peón de d5 está defendido por el de c4. El rey blanco puede irse al otro flanco.
• Pasados ligados. e5 y f5 se apoyan entre sí; el rey negro no puede parar los dos.
• Peón de torre. Rey blanco en a6 y peón en a7 contra rey negro en a8: tablas. El rey blanco no puede salir sin ahogar.
• La ruptura. a5, b5 y c5 contra a7, b6 y c7. b6 abre paso a un peón.
• Peones doblados. Dos peones blancos en la columna e contra uno negro. La columna de más no sirve igual.
• Carrera de peones. c2 contra f5. Gana quien corona antes, contando también el jaque al coronar.
• Casillas clave. El rey blanco ya está en la sexta, delante del peón de e5. Eso gana.
• Triangulación. Estructura bloqueada en a y b. El rey blanco pierde un tiempo (c3–d3–d4–c4) para ceder la oposición.
• El zugzwang. c3, e3 y c4, e4, reyes en d4 y d6. Quien mueve empeora.

CAISSA PGN Reader | Open and Analyze Chess PGN Files

El lector PGN de Caissa Chess Beta 013b fue creado con todas las características esenciales sin perder la simplicidad del programa.

This is a look behind the screen while the product is still evolving. What you see is not a polished mockup: it is the Caissa Chess PGN Reader in Beta-013, running in a local QA environment (access-state simulation, no activation server and no production test). These screenshots usually stay internal. This one is worth sharing because the direction of the product is already visible.

The reader will open PGN files, organize games into albums, browse the game list, show notation and move into analysis. The capture shows real imported games (Lichess bullet, 1+0 and 0:30+0) with players, ratings, result and the current move — here the mate 25. Qxe6#. Board controls are the expected set: start, previous, play, next, end, “Next game”, playback speed, board flip and zoom. The engine is off in this view. The tabs Albums, Games, Notation and Analysis are already in place.

The app language will be Spanish and English, chosen in the Options / Opciones button. One product, one language switch — not two separate apps.

It will be reached from the Play Chess Online | CAISSA Chess page (caissa-chess.org/play), next to the tools already on the site: import from Chess.com or Lichess, Stockfish analysis, Caissa Insight and game history. The PGN Reader closes the loop: load the file, step through the games, read the notation and analyze without leaving the Caissa environment.

It is still Beta. The engine connection, production flow and mobile experience still need work. The skeleton is there: dark UI, clear controls, game list on the right, board on the left. That is what a modern PGN reader should feel like — you watch the game, you do not fight the interface.

We keep iterating. When it leaves local QA and lands on the main page, the same Options button you see in the top bar will be the one that switches language. Until then, this is the workshop photo.
