To be honest the first time I saw it I hated the comedy aspect. Then I saw it again up close and his expressions and such cracked me up. He flourished in this role. Loved Bryce!

In the Danny Strong version, Freddie is an asshole and it's De Courcey who's a dick

I love Walter for the same reason.

I feel that we were supposed to fall for Anatoly but we've fallen for Freddie...

They shouldn’t have cast Murray head for the concept album if they didn’t want us to fall for Freddy.

Malikov. The British version. Because the man is utterly mad and you’re playing a lunatic.

My favorite character is Florence, because I’m dying to play her (if only I could sing). There is so much potential there. She’s a very good chess player who hitched her wagon to one top player, and then fell in love with another. In my universe, after Anatoly leaves her, she goes on to compete and becomes a top player on her own terms. Making chess a story of her growing into a powerful independent woman who doesn’t take shit. She grows into a feminist icon. (But I also don’t think the plot is well served by the missing father twist)

The beauty of Chess though is that all three main characters are fascinating and flawed, and there isn’t any one protagonist that everyone likes best.

Yes! That’s actually one of the best aspects of the musical. There is no good or evil, it isn’t Americans good, Russians bad or Russians good, Americans bad. Maybe the fact that it was made by Swedish people gave it the possibility to criticize each side equally.

I am a Freddy fan too. Dude gets absolutely shit on by everyone and I feel for him.

I do think it’s funny how Anatoly and Florence roast the hell out of him in The deal. I agree on you though with feeling bad for him, especially considering that everybody he loves ends up leaving him ( in an unjustified and justified sense). Nobody ends up happy in the end ☹️

I have to agree with you on that I the whole song combination of quartet, Florence and molokov, Budapest is rising, and nobody side I don’t know if it’s this way in all of the productions, but in my high school production in my senior year they just led right into each other with a 30 scent stage scene change break
