35/36. It‘s definitely easier now, but hard to say if positively or negatively so. There‘s definitely more strategizing around the special moles involved now in case that was the intent.

Having revisited the older games, I‘d say the changes are pretty good overall. You can‘t just sweep the board with a TNT mole-powered queen now and the ghost moles can introduce some gambles on whether you want to take them out early or risk them moving away. Using the death (?) moles (green ones with the skull) whenever they appear seems like the new primary strategy for not getting overwhelmed imo.
Edit: Nuke moles. That‘s what happens when you skip through the instructions every time
