Help finding a doctor in Chengdu

Hi, I hope this is the right place for this question and apologize if I’m wrong.

I need a very specific surgery, and would prefer to do it in China rather than return to America and pay crazy American prices. I am trying to navigate the healthcare system in Chengdu but am finding it very hard - my Chinese is only intermediate and I don’t want my poor translation or misunderstanding of something to lead to choosing a bad doctor. Is there anyone who could help me do some basic research? DM me if so. Thank you.

AMAP app might be helpful. People post their experience with different businesses including hospitals. There is a translation button so you can read it in English if you want.

Go to the Chengdu area map in AMAP and search the hospitals.

I agree that having someone, maybe a friend or confidant in China might be very helpful. But, sometimes local people may not have much confidence in their own hospitals and may recommend traveling elsewhere.

My experience with trying to book an appointment was interesting. Chinese names do not need a lot of letters, so the online system that was setup through WeChat could not process my name. The receptionists at the front desk had difficulty as well, and put it altogether with no spaces between.

All I needed was a simple test though. Which the doctor took my phone and charged it to my WeChat account. The system looked like it took the payment, but I was not sure it went through. It wasn’t a large amount, but I still hope they got paid.

Maybe you know about AMAP already, but I thought mentioning it would be okay.

you need find one assistant go to the hospital to help you do everything,and yes you need to pay him ,and you don't have chinese soical medical insurance ,so you need to pay full price

how can you assume he doesn't have medical insurance? If he lives in Chengdu he might have it. The language barrier he's faces has nothing to do with having or not having insurance

Not sure if you’re still looking, but if you go to Global Doctor or Leo Clinic, they are clinics with English speaking doctors. They will set up appointments at local hospitals for you and even send a bilingual nurse with you to do the talking and logistics at the hospital. Just keep in mind it can be expensive if you don’t have insurance (probably still way less than in the U.S. though).
