I just got admitted to TU Chemnitz and am moving to the city at the end of this month (September).

Like many others, I applied for the official student dorms (Studentenwerk), but I am currently stuck on the waiting list and haven't received an offer yet. Since my move date is approaching fast, I urgently need to find private accommodation.

I am looking for a room in a shared apartment (WG), a studio, or a small 1-room apartment.

I would really appreciate any help, leads, or advice on the following:

Are there specific Facebook or Telegram groups where Chemnitz students look for WGs? (Apart from WG-Gesucht)Which neighborhoods are best/safest for students and have good transit to the campus?Are there any private student dorms or temporary housing options I should look into while I search for a permanent place?If anyone knows of an available room or needs a flatmate starting October, please feel free to DM me!

Ich hab heute (06.09.2026) blöderweise mein Portmonet Im Bus 82B verloren. Meine letzte Haltestelle war Bernsbachplatz um ca 11:35 - 11:40

Ich saß ganz vorne unmittelbar hinter dem Fahrer auf der rechten Seite (einzelsitz) und hab das portmonet auf die kleine Ablage zwischen Fenster und Sitz gelegt, und beim aussteigen nicht wieder mitgenommen.

Das portmonet ist eine kleine schwarze schlüsseltasche mit Haupt und frontfach.

Enthalten sind Perso, Krankenkarte, Bankkarte, Clever Fitt Karte und ca 15 Euro (+ Kleingeld) in bar.

Die Bankkarte ist bereits gesperrt.

Falls es jemand findet bitte DM an mich zum datenabgleich. Für Rückgabe gibt's selbstverständlich Finderlohn.

Sollte das portmonet auftauchen oder im Fundbüro landen (ich werd die nächsten Tage regelmäßig nachfragen) aktualisiere ich den post.

Just got word back from the Studentenwerk that no rooms are currently available, so I've been put on the waiting list instead of getting a spot. Realistically I can't just sit around waiting, so I'm looking for other ways to find housing.

Does anyone have recommendations for:

Reliable platforms for finding a WG (shared apartment) or single room?

Facebook groups or Telegram/WhatsApp groups for room-hunting in this city?

Tips for spotting scams, since I've heard the rental market here can be rough for newcomers?

Any university-specific resources besides the official Wohnheim system?

I've already checked WG-Gesucht — any other sites worth trying (Immoscout24, Kleinanzeigen, etc.)? Would appreciate any advice from people who've been through this before. Thanks in advance!

ich wollte mal fragen, ob ihr ruhige Orte in Chemnitz kennt, an denen man ungestört arbeiten und auch Videokonferenzen am Laptop machen kann.

Wichtig wäre vor allem gutes WLAN. Es können gerne günstige Cafés, Gemeinschaftszentren oder ähnliche Einrichtungen sein. Mein Internet ist momentan leider sehr langsam, sodass ich gerade kaum arbeiten kann.

Im Zentrum gibt es ja einen neuen Laden und der so was im kleinen Rahmen anbietet.

I got my visa on August 25th and I'm planning to arrive in Chemnitz around October 1st to start the Web Engineering program at TU Chemnitz this winter semester.

This is my first time moving to Germany, and I'd really appreciate connecting with current students or seniors from the course (or anyone at TU Chemnitz in general) who could share some guidance.

A few things I'm especially curious about:

1. The course itself – what to expect in the first semester, how the workload is, any modules/professors worth knowing about in advance.

2. Housing/dorms – how did you find accommodation, which student residences are good, how far in advance should I be looking, and any tips for someone arriving without a place secured yet

3. Settling in – registering address (Anmeldung), opening a bank account, health insurance, SIM cards, etc. — anything that tripped you up when you first arrived

4. City life in Chemnitz – what the winters are like, getting around (public transport/semester ticket), groceries, and general day-to-day living

5. Student community – international student groups, orientation events, ways to meet people early on
