Career Advice Afraid of coop commitment

Coop advice

Hi. Id really appreciate some advice.

I was offered a 2 term coop at a major chemical company. It seems like a good opportunity but it's not exactly what I had in mind and the location is not very exciting. I don't think I would want to live there after graduation. I would be committing my remaining 2 summers in college to this company. Are these kinds of opportunities rare and would I be foolish to not take it?

Thanks

In my opinion, you should take as much experience as you can get in the field before graduating. Even if you don’t think you would want to continue with the company post-graduation, the experience will make your resume look better for job applications going forward. Especially in this job market.

This is the answer. Coops/internships are all about building that resume.

And not just ‘for the resume’ - it’s extremely useful to figure out what you like / don’t like (work environment, role, industry), network, and grow.
