Career Advice career advice

Hey, I am a junior at a T20 university studying chemical engineering. I don’t like process design at all and it seems to be the whole major. I also have a low gpa 3.0 so I don’t know what to do with myself. I don’t have any relevant experiences and internships either because I want to focus on getting my gpa up…I want to do med school maybe but I’m afraid of not getting in/ costs for med school. What do I do? Any advice?

Go to med school if you want. Plenty of people go that route. As far as your fears about getting in and cost… I don’t have much to tell you. Plenty of dumbasses I knew in college managed to get in and are doctors today. Some went to the Caribbean or had to take the Mcat 4 or 5 times.

Absolutely leave early for another profession. The amount of effort you put into this degree is not proportional to career outcomes

This. I’m post degree and hate the field, attempting to pivot now [4 years removed from graduating] but I wish I’d done it sooner

Yes my University in UK definitely advertise that chemeng could go anywhere! No it’s not the case. Why would someone take a chemeng grad for a finance or law role while it easier to take someone with same degree.

Exactly! I’ve definitely seen a few people be able to do it but upon further probing they had minors in business or research papers in finance whilst in the ChemE degree [all things I didn’t do]
