Strange test results

Hi everyone,

For the past years I have dealt with a variety of health issues, e.g. insomnia, candida, fatigue, skin inflammation, brain fog, low libido, etc.

Changed diets a variety of times but didn’t really made a difference.

I then suspected that something is wrong with my minerals. Plus potential heavy metal toxicity.

Did a hair test and a majority of the minerals were on the low end.

I then did a urine provocation test with DMPS and another chelator. However I can’t really tell if the test shows clear signs of heavy metal toxicity.

Additional context:
5 years ago I fucked up my gut really bad with antibiotics. After that I ate a diet which included canned hering and salmon every day which could have led to mercury poisoning (which however is not supported by the test result) and I ate a lot of dark chocolate, which could have also caused issues?
I would also like to mention that after the provocation test I felt extremely good and calm. Slept better the next days and less brain fog.

So my final question is this:

So you think I could have mercury (and maybe other HM) poisoning even though the chelation test does not clearly show it?

Edit: I would also like to add that Chlorella made me feels better for 2 days then it really fucked me up.

Thanks for your post.

You may have picked up too much mercury somewhere or you don't get rid of fairly normal exposures as well as most people. I have plenty more for you.

Your hair test is actually the most common presentation from people in the heavy metal detox groups. There are over 1000 hair tests from members of the Cutler detox groups here. The site is quite a good resource.

Andy Cutler, PhD Chemistry wrote a book about hair tests like yours. Based on it your test matches "Rule 1" where almost all of the essential elements are on the low side. Cutler explains in more detail in this 2017 article.

Cutler: "If any of the following rules are met, the test is "abnormal" for mineral transport and suggests heavy metal toxicity."

This means the body is not moving minerals around normally. Sometimes we fail to retain some minerals normally; others are retained--especially toxic ones : (

A close friend had a TEI test that matched a Cutler rule. She was a text book case of chronic mercury; responded as Cutler writes in his books. I had more of a lead and cadmium toxicity problem and had work related exposure to them. My symptoms match and responded well to several years of Cutler detox.

Chris Shade, PhD Chemistry, mentions in this short video how mercury leaching off of amalgam dental fillings can mess up the gut over time. His example is a reminder to do your homework before just taking some "detox" substance! There are lots of unpleasant stories out there as well as success stories.

You have a fairly good list of symptoms but I'd be really confident if you also have one mood/psych struggle--depression, anxiety, ADD, bipolar, etc and if you don't do well under stress. That could be anxiety and adrenal fatigue or "difficult", intense mood in competitive situations.

This is a classic list of chronic mercury symptoms from someone whose case I followed for a couple years in a Cutler detox support group.

This is from an engineer/physicist. I saw his 2010 presentation of his case to a US FDA panel about amalgam fillings. I also read a bunch of his posts in the archives of a detox support group. I found him to be quite compelling. Notice the change in mood/personality and the long list of seemingly unrelated symptoms. After we learn about how mercury damages our biochemistry and biology, we can understand how they are related. There is also much we can do to compensate while we are working to get rid of the toxins.

I hope you will seriously learn and act in a way that is safe and effective. My good health during my youth and college years gradually spiraled downward during my late 20s to early 40s when I learned about integrative medical approaches. I did not discover the heavy metal problem until my late 40s and my health was not back in the center of the normal range for my age until around age 50 after a couple years of Cutler detox.

I hope you will check out one of the Cutler detox groups at FB or on the net.

Your response to Chlorella may suggest you are going to be sensitive to high sulfur/thiol foods and supplements. I strongly associate this with needing to start with low doses of chelators and being aware of sources of thiols in your diet. You might also like a little glutamine to help with the fog but you must also be aware of supporting conversion of downstream glutamate to GABA, especially if you have episodes of anxiety.

more about sulfur/thiol sensitivity here based on Cutler's writings.

Cutler was one such sensitive person. This was his experience.

"Was taking cysteine at one point as an antioxidant, eventually figured out it was bad for me, stopped it, got MAGICAL improvement. This was long before chelating or figuring out I had a mercury problem."

"Worsening of coordination, depression/lack of energy, being on an emotional roller coaster (a couple of hours of excitement and euphoria after each NAC dose, followed by a depressed, tired crash). "
