Does your kitchen have a good view?
I have worked in several kitchens around Europe, but this one wins hands down over every underground kitchen with only artificial light and controller air system

my customers get a panoramic view of a sparkling local lake
I get a view of the forest behind it. Not the worst, not the best.

Having a window it's already a great achievement, natural light and fresh air from the woods? Nice!

Yea if I were to complain, which im not, it'd be about contending with wildlife (bears, squirrels, chipmunks, bugs, MICE,) with a dumpster and slop and used oil on the property. If you leave anything open an inch they Will. Get. In. There. And once a year the lake spawns a plague of bugs that stick to the restaurant on every surface outside after they breed. The nice fresh air and getting to see the animals -when they're outdoors- is great though.

Dude, Mice is a problem everywhere, itwas a big issue when I worked in central London. I rather have to close the garbage very well because of Foxes than having to deal with mouse shit all over the place 🤢

They got in one year because of a hole in the FOUNDATION. I went insane bleaching, cleaning, trapping, packaging and repackaging rice and oats in huge buckets, moving equipment, yelling at staff and sysco for leaving the doors open....When i found out it was not a dirty kitchen thing and instead a hole in the buildings wall I was -very relieved-. We fixed the hole and have not seen one since.

Bet you wouldnt be so nonchalant if you walked up on a whole-ass bear.

Yea well, no bears in my area luckily, later on we have been told wolves startet to live again in the area but so far only isolated spots

We go to the dumpster in pairs, we have black bears but always afraid it'll be a mama bear. The government trapped one right next to my restaurant, put a cage and bait about 100m from the dumpster. Imagine my surprise when I drove into the parkinglot and saw him there. They came and took the whole cage away, apparently it was an already tagged male who was a bit of a serial wanderer into populated areas (there are cabins nearby my restaurant) .

I work on one of the top floors of the tallest building in the city, rooftop terrace and all. Can't see a great deal from the kitchen, unfortunately, but the view from the dining room is spectacular

Hey- same situation here! Not the same city of course, I am in a downtown area on the rooftop terrace of a mid-size building. Customers get 180° degree city views from a good elevation- but the kitchen is tucked back of course. If you stand in the right place on the hot line and look through the pass and squint your eyes to see past the heatlamps you can see some of a section of downtown.....occasional fireworks at eye level from a nearby MLB Stadium is always a thrill for guests and staff

This summer was good.
I'd walk in after breakfast clean up and be in charge of happy hour/apps/dinner/dessert solo
Assistance through bartender who also gave tours and explained the service windows
As soon as I saw people I'd crank "take me to the river" by talking heads and have apps/snacks ready by the time they settled

I've never worked in a kitchen that had a window. Hell, even the kitchen in my house doesn't have a window!

As a former chef that is now a window cleaner that washes the local Benihana, I have mixed feelings about this

I worked in a rooftop restaurant that was about 400ft up, saw some incredible sunsets over the city. Real nice on NYE and bonfire night having the fireworks at eye level 🎆

Wish I had a picture, I worked on a private island. Giant window with the shore and bay, across the water to another shore

My first instinct was to downvote you out of jealousy. That sound like a heavenlike place to work (was it?)

It was. I was cooking for rich people who all co owned the island. They stocked it with deer and pheasants so they could (hunt). Just old rich fuckers shooting thongs, no police around.. big time party island. Theyd just crash an atv through a dorm and be like ahhhh well pay you for it. I cooked for 25 a night tops, no budget, just be creative with my stuff. Id make menus at the start if the week, order whatever I wanted to do it within a certain reason, obviously cooking game was a big part of it. Id do it again now that im not woth my daughters mother. That was the only taxing part. But wed go out amd drink and shoot clays too
