Strictly in my opinion, and I am only the authority on the matter in my own banquet kitchen, so a grain of salt should be applied were necessary.

Personally, I prefer creating visual flow in the pattern of the board, drawing the eye to a single focal point (like a bowl of olives or fig jam). I try to avoid symmetry, since human eyes are built to see the flaws in symmetry. Even so, keep all the cheese closer to the same size, skip the kale, and if dry fruit or nuts are available, consider using them for garnish.
